Registration is officially OPEN for the first ever Canadian Symposium for Computational Neuroscience! Join us for a highly engaging virtual event including an interactive workshop led by @AmiiThinks. More information can be found at https://t.co/fbSJBvDGZf.
Here's Cathy Stinear @StrokeScience to remind us that predicting outcome is hard and we shouldn't rely on initial impairment (especially in the more severe patients) - so think of tools like PREP2 #UKSF20 that can improve prediction accuracy
..... and if we add it to the positive/negative hemiplegic symptom story that John @blamlab discussed, then we have a framework that allows solid hypothesis generation in relation to motor recovery after stroke = progress #UKSF20
Thanks John @blamlab for clearly laying out the dissociable positive and negative symptoms of hemiplegia - each may need different therapeutic approaches #UKSF20
So pleased to see my PhD work on motor learning in stroke patients come to life! Thankful for all the patients that dedicated their time to my research!
The last piece of my PhD work is finally out in @braincomms : Sensorimotor cortex beta oscillations reflect motor skill learning ability after stroke with @dr_nickward@DiedrichsenJorn @holly_rossiter

Can everybody just take notice of the pandemic modelling approach used by Karl and his group @WCHN_UCL @ucl - especially SAGE, especially the government https://t.co/wwnUdpjlGu
The winner of our Excellence in Public Engagement Award is Kate Ledingham for her work creating videos of discussions between stroke survivors, herself and Prof Cathy Price to understand the kind of feedback patients want to receive about their language recovery after stroke!
They all show that SSRIs on their own don’t work (we knew this from animal studies back in 1970s) but have not investigated SSRIs + rehab/training (which did work in animal studies back in 1970s) #readtheliterature there was no rationale for these big expensive RCTs
Exactly - please can the stroke community take notice of these recent failures in trial design - mistakes of neural protection era are being repeated - pretty depressing to those of us interested in #strokerecovery
A great article highlighting the immense success of our Director, Professor Cathy Price and honorary principal investigator Professor @behrenstimb upon their election as Fellows of the Royal Society for their outstanding contribution to science.

Too often we see people failing when returning to work or their relationships unravelling post-stroke because of changes affecting their higher cognitive functions. Much more focus is required on sophisticated assessment and ecologically valid, effective interventions.
