https://t.co/DdvnlbZVK1 has informed my teaching more than any other piece of writing. It’s a weird, overly negative rant that I keep coming back to even though I still can’t figure out how much I agree with it. Math & TOK teachers - take a look. #MTBoS#iteachmath#tok
Guide understanding, don't teach algorithms. Mathematics is all figure out-able. Support students figuring out how to do things and why something must be true. #MTBoS#iteachmath#thinkingclassroom
The old “back-to-back describe the relation while your partner draws it” game. I tried not to make it competitive, but…
Thanks John Scammell @thescamdog!

My precalc class was greeted by a few long equations ‘solved’ on the boards. Listening to groups argue over what step the first mistake occurs is music to my ears. My favorite (as always) is the one without a mistake!
@TedOCschool@pgliljedahl https://t.co/XLD4U8R1GV has a bunch of great ones, though Peter Liljedahl calls it "The Pirates and the Diamond" on his list. It's based on a problem just under two millennia old: https://t.co/jZVgVG9in2
After 17 years of teaching math, Building Thinking Classrooms clarifies, challenges, and just feels right. Thanks @pgliljedahl! Tax Agency, Painted Cube, 4 4s, finally Pirates and the Diamond (same probs for Alg I and Precalc). Ss are engaged, excited, and exhausted by the end.
Thanks @panlepan for instructions on how to build a trefoil knot. We made a few during my school's "Intensive Week" while I led exploration of mathematical art. The big knot's now in our cafeteria. Pics of other Ss' work:https://t.co/3XFwE5EFN9 #ecoledhumanite#iteachmath#MTBoS
My 6th Carnival Day (thanks as always @clara_ngo for the inspiration!), where Ss make and play probability games, is in the books. Low-key this year since my class has only 4 Ss, but we still had some other kids and grown-ups stop by for the fun. #ecoledhumanite
@panlepan Thank you so much for the detailed instructions on this! We built a few during my school's "Intensive Week." My theme was mathematical art and we hung the big one in the school's cafeteria. Pics of other Ss' projects on my blog: https://t.co/3XFwE5EFN9 #ecoledhumanite
I LOVE thinking deeply about seemingly simple things. Thank you @robertkaplinsky for helping me wonder. I hope to impart the same to my students with this.
@howie_hua Excited to finally use @geoffkrall's CCSS PrBL Curriculum Maps as guides for my Algebra I/Geometry class this year. https://t.co/tYtjpY3Kou . A Mathematician's Lament by Lockhart also really changed the way I thought about math early in my career. https://t.co/K7fM4ncU3o
@MrAllenEdu @NatBanting@joshgiesbrecht I love that I just found this amazing animated gif linked from https://t.co/OrFTn3R7Jw linked from @geoffkrall's Alg1 CCSS PrBL Curriculum Map. Thank you all and the interwebs for helping me help my students.
The entire history of mathematics is about being slow and failing repeatedly. Also, everyone who ventured into this defeating labyrinth did so willingly. School math has been about speed and success with mandatory entry. Square peg meet round hole.
