For those of you not on Friends of the GG Facebook page. We are at last seriously toying with idea of GG2. A big, massive online tabletop game with global engagement. It could be the wargame of our times. Much to discuss, so feel free to pitch in.

Always stops my clocks. We played biggest tabletop wargame ever on this fabric rendering of Siborne’s 1840s map of Waterloo made for us by @tinywargames (itself biggest battlefield map ever printed). Still can’t believe we pulled it off. @DigWaterloo @WaterlooReplay @UofGlasgow

The spirit of @WaterlooReplay is strong with this one. Love that the work of my more prolific alter-ego Professor Drallop, however controversial, has helped on the historical accuracy front. Everything that wargaming should be about. And those @6mmBaccus minis look fantastic.

Hougoumont holds but La Haie Sainte falls to French, who bring up horse artillery to a small ridge just opposite. They hammer the Inniskillings at close range. One of their 6 Ib cannonballs overshoots & lands near Mont Saint Jean. Excavated by @DigWaterloo in 2019 #Waterloo205

Famous 95th Rifles fall back from position in the sandpit across road from La Haie Sainte. Said to have been used to bury 4,000 dead after battle (unlikely). @DigWaterloo did some work there but inconclusive. Hope to return. #Waterloo205

Battle of Waterloo was fought today in 1815. A short film on the 2019 discovery of limbs amputated by surgeons at Mont St Jean field hospital by @DigWaterloo

Mont St Jean is a farm behind Wellington's centre & his main field hospital. Thousands of men treated here during & after battle. @DigWaterloo excavated remains of 3 amputated legs on this farm. One contained a shattered musket ball. Incredibly thought provoking. #Waterloo205

Ney's epic cavalry charge up hill between Hougoumont & La Haie Sainte built to c.3,500 horse. They attack the allied infantry squares on reverse slope of the ridge. @DigWaterloo has begun detector surveys here, & in 2019 found an unexploded French howitzer shell. #waterloo205

For most part, can tell Allied from French musket balls as Brown Bess is .75 calibre (L) & French is .69, so smaller (R). Depression on BB is from violent use of ram rod - it's been smashed in when loading at time of high stress. Archaeology of fear. @DigWaterloo #Waterloo205

The Prussians are arriving from the east. One of the first places they reach is Fichermont Farm on Wellington's left flank. The farm burned down in the 1960s and disappeared from the battlefield. @DigWaterloo are returning it through excavation. #Waterloo205

Fight for Hougoumont goes on through pm. @DigWaterloo detector survey in Killing Ground gives forensic picture of French attacks against garden wall, massed at E. end. Also proven they got over wall & fought in garden. Musket shot near wall embedded with brick dust. #Waterloo205

40 French broke through N. Gate. Famously closed by Coldstream Guards, but Scots Guards also involved. French killed. @DigWaterloo excavation shows they entered into a confined space & most probably killed there. Nice to find Scots Guards buttons as well as CG! #Waterloo205
