This week marks the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, which finally concluded almost quarter of a century of unprecedentedly destructive warfare. This gilt buckle is backed in gold and contains a cornelian seal printed with the head of Napoleon. #Waterloo205

Yesterday was the 205th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, where British forces defeated Napoleon Bonaparte. To commemorate, I have restored a startling photograph of a British veteran of that battle, proudly displaying his campaign medal. It was taken in 1850.

Thinking about #Waterloo205, for me the high point of Anglo-French relations since came in 2009, when, in an incredible display of fraternity, France's Triomphant & Britain's HMS Vanguard, nuclear-powered submarines, managed to collide mid-Atlantic (no injuries, thankfully)
