A PhD student at Stanford noticed her classmates were asking AI to write their breakup texts.
So she ran a study. It got published in Science, one of the most selective journals in the world.
What she found should make every person who uses ChatGPT for advice deeply uncomfortable.
Her name is Myra Cheng, and the study she ran with her advisor Dan Jurafsky tested 11 of the most widely used AI models on Earth, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek, across nearly 12,000 real social situations.
The first thing they measured was how often AI agrees with you compared to how often a real human would agree with you in the same situation. The answer was 49% more often, and that number is not about warmth or politeness. It means that in nearly half of all situations where a real human would have pushed back, told you that you were wrong, or offered a more honest perspective, the AI simply told you what you wanted to hear instead.
Then they pushed harder. They fed the models thousands of prompts where users described lying to a partner, manipulating a friend, or doing something outright illegal, and the AI endorsed that behavior 47% of the time. Not one model out of eleven. Not a specific version of one product. Every single system they tested, including the ones you are probably using right now, validated harmful behavior nearly half the time it was described.
The second experiment is the part that should genuinely disturb you. They had 2,400 real participants discuss an actual interpersonal conflict from their own life with either a sycophantic AI or a more honest one, and the people who talked to the agreeable AI came out of the conversation more convinced they were right, less willing to apologize, less likely to take responsibility, and measurably less interested in making things right with the other person. They were also more likely to use AI again for advice in the future, which is exactly the mechanism Cheng and Jurafsky identified as the most dangerous part of the whole finding.
The AI is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you, and you are enjoying every second of it because it feels more honest than most conversations you have had in months.
Jurafsky said it in a single sentence after the paper came out. Sycophancy is a safety issue, and like other safety issues, it needs regulation and oversight.
Cheng was more direct about what you should actually do right now. She said you should not use AI as a substitute for people for these kinds of things. That is the best thing to do for now.
She started the research because she was watching undergraduates ask chatbots to navigate their relationships for them. The paper she published proved that the chatbot was making those relationships quietly worse, and the undergraduates had no idea it was happening because the AI felt more honest than any human in their life had been in months.
the CATO Institute.. a libertarian think tank funded by the Koch brothers.. just published a study showing immigrants paid more in taxes than they received in benefits every single year from 1994 to 2023..
not a left-wing university.. not a Democratic PAC.. the Koch brothers' own research institute..
they reduced the deficit by $14.5 trillion over 30 years.. they earn less per hour but work at higher rates.. which means higher per capita income.. which means higher taxes paid..
the country spent 30 years being told immigrants were draining the system.. turns out they were funding it.. and the people who told you that knew the numbers the whole time
Walid Khalidi recently passed away at the age of 100. He was one of the greatest historians of Palestine to have ever lived. In 1984, he published, "Before their diaspora: a photographic history of the Palestinians, 1876-1948."

IRGC: From now on, for every assassination, one American company will be destroyed.
The list of companies: Cisco, HP, Intel, Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, IBM, Dell, Palantir, Nvidia, J.P. Morgan, Tesla, GE, Spire Solutions, G42, and Boeing
Full statement:
Warning from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the ruling body of the aggressor America:
You ignored our repeated warnings regarding the necessity of stopping terrorist operations, and today, both in your terrorist attacks and those of your "israeli" allies, a number of Iranian citizens were martyred. Since the main element in designing and tracking assassination targets is American ICT and AI companies, in response to these terrorist operations, from now on, the main institutions involved in terrorist operations will be our legitimate targets.
We advise the employees of these institutions to immediately leave their workplaces to save their lives. Residents around these terrorist companies in all countries of the region should also leave their locations within a one-kilometer radius and move to a safe place.
Companies that are actively involved in terrorist designs will be subject to reciprocal action for every assassination. They are announced as follows:
1. Cisco
2. HP
3. Intel
4. Oracle
5. Microsoft
6. Apple
7. Google
8. Meta
9. IBM
10. Dell
11. Palantir
12. Nvidia
13. J.P. Morgan
14. Tesla
15. GE
16. Spire Solutions
17. G42
18. Boeing
These companies should expect the destruction of their relevant units in exchange for every assassination in Iran, starting from 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1st, Tehran time.
While I was getting tattooed over the weekend, there was a No Kings protest going by the shop and a Ukrainian artist just sighs and says, “your people need to learn about fire”
@USronaldcarter TEVA Pharmaceuticals is one of the largest manufacturers of opioids/pain-killers in the US and was responsible for the spread of the opioid epidemy in the US. See, complaint against TEVA:
🚨 Holy shit, catastrophic 12 hours for Israel and the US:
– Iran bombed Israel's TEVA PHARMACEUTICAL FACTORY — the largest generic drug manufacturer on Earth. Chemical leaks. Secondary explosions. Factory burning.
– Iran knocked an Israeli POWER PLANT in the Negev completely OFFLINE.
– Iran carried out 27 STRIKES on the Negev with ZERO visible air defense activations. Not one interception. NOTHING.
– Haifa Port OIL REFINERY struck. Stock COLLAPSED 4% within hours.
– US BASES hit SIMULTANEOUSLY in Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Four countries. One coordinated attack.
– Ex-CIA officer on record: "165 innocent little girls killed by American Tomahawk missiles" targeting Iranian universities.
– Iran issued ULTIMATUM: US must condemn university bombings by NOON March 30 or Iran will strike American universities.
– Iran announces it will begin bombing the PERSONAL HOMES of US and Israeli military commanders.
– Yemen has entered the war on Iran's side. Iraq is sending aid to Iran.
– Iran claims FULL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz — 40% of the world's seaborne oil.
– The Atlantic is running "multidimensional economic disaster" headlines.
The situation changed DRAMATICALLY in the last 12 hours. This war just entered a phase nobody planned for.
I'll keep you updated. Turn on notifications. 🚨
The FT now reporting that, even without the energy shocks, there's a pretty good chance that the closure of Hormuz will pop the AI bubble and lead to a stock market crash
