Those who don't respond to vaccines need prophylatic treatments as an alternative (such as Evusheld).
Kate Bingham "The was the only Western country to not protect it's immunocompromised people using long acting antibodies."

Its a good idea to wear an FFP2/3 to protect yourself from airborne infections, e.g. on public transport.
What’s stopping @GwynneMP saying that?
What’s stopping health writers asking politicians why they’re not recommending respirators @BBCHughPym?

Cancer vaccines to rev up a person's immune response to a tumor are gaining momentum, even vs some of the most aggressive types. One unsettled question: why does the immune system overlook a neoantigen produced by a tumour, but gets activated when it is delivered by vaccine?

NHS England says there were over 5,000 patients in hospital with flu at the end of last week. The average in hospital with flu last week was almost 3.5 times higher than the same week in 2023. NHS England says the number quadrupled since the end of November.
I just hope the Chair of the @covidinquiryuk responds soon to the letter from a number of Core Participants which calls for URGENT interim recommendations to make healthcare settings safe.
The scientific evidence is clear & the flawed IPC guidance MUST be addressed & updated.
Back in mid 2020 I offered to source and fund air filters for every classroom in our kids' schools.
The school told me that it would prevent the children from getting the essential infections they needed to catch as children.
That was the point at which I knew we were doomed.
You may have heard of the 'tidal wave' of flu cases 'overwhelming hospitals' at the moment.
Just so you know, there have been ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR days out of the last 365 when there have been more people in hospital for Covid than there are with flu right now.
@Leic_hospital Most infectious diseases in hospitals are entirely preventable - with the right measures:
- Respirator, such as FFP2s
- HEPA air filters
- Ventilation (open a window!)
Not baggy blue surgical masks and hand washing for airborne viruses… 🙄
@Leic_hospital I’m pleased to see facemasks being reinstated in Leicester hospitals…
…but it’s a real shame you’re not recommending FFP2+ masks since ‘floppy blue’ surgical masks do NOT protect against AIRBORNE viruses.
Improved ventilation & air filters will also help prevent transmission.
Many of those admitted for influenza will then get Covid-19 in hospital through nosocomial infection. Co-infection with both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 leads to increased morbidity and mortality, and increased duration of hospital stay. Yet little to no airborne infection control.
I am a proud Jew

@RichardJMurphy Our experience as a group of friends supporting our friend through his palliative care journey was a bureaucratic challenging process. We had experienced retired NHS staff trying to negotiate system. UK urgently requires easier & equitable access to good palliative care journey
This government cannot be trusted with assisted dying https://t.co/o9deHvtjaQ They are too indifferent to the reality of life in the UK for that to be the case.

Any thoughts on this article?
As a group of friends supporting one of our friends through palliative care journey it was v challenging to access right support. We were so frustrated
But short-term illness is only the tip of the iceberg.
The other huge problem is long-term illness which results from repeated Covid infections.
This heart-breaking report from the BMA chronicles the debilitating effect Long Covid has on many doctors.

I’ll end with some wise words written by Florence Nightingale back in 1859:
“The very first canon of nursing […] the first essential to the patient, without which all the rest you can do for him is as nothing[…] is this: TO KEEP THE AIR HE BREATHES AS PURE AS THE EXTERNAL AIR”
Earlier this year, Sir Patrick Vallance warned that another pandemic is “absolutely inevitable” & urged the incoming government to focus on preparing for it.
Improvements to ventilation will not only reduce the spread of illness now; it will also be an investment for the future.
