I'm the last person to defend LSU, but I'll just say it: this is really dumb.

This is an extraordinary amount of legal machinery for two guys who never even played an NFL down.

Dae’Quan Wright is a 22-year-old tight end. Virginia Tech, then Ole Miss. Last year: 39 catches, 635 yards, 5 TDs, second-team All-SEC. Went undrafted. Signed with the Eagles for $25,000, got waived, claimed by the Browns, dressed for warmups once, played zero snaps, waived August 24.

Zxavian Harris is a 6-foot-8 defensive tackle who started 15 games at Ole Miss last year (58 tackles, 9 TFL, 3 sacks). Undrafted after foot surgery. Saints UDFA. Never played a preseason snap. Waived August 8. He testified he made $190 in gas money.

If they had not declared, they would have been in the same boat as the rest of the 2022 class now winning fifth-year cases in court. The NCAA is already letting that class back. UCLA, South Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, and Minnesota have already added those plaintiffs. Junior Tuihalamaka, an undrafted Notre Dame defensive end who never signed an NFL contract, played for LSU on Saturday.

So the actual rule the SEC is threatening to expel a 1932 charter member over is this: you can have a fifth year if a judge gives it to you, unless you spent three weeks on an NFL practice squad and got cut.

The NCAA itself is a total mess with no rules that make sense and no leadership. Just let them play?
