The Wayne National Forest is made up of 244,000 acres in southeastern Ohio. Visit our Welcome Center located on US Hwy 33 between Athens and Nelsonville, Ohio.

Due to recent rains, the Wayne NF’s trails will remain closed until further notice to protect visitors and reduce damage to trails. The decision applies to all trails designated for motorized (off-highway vehicle) and non-motorized use (mountain biking and horseback riding).

NEWS RELEASE: The USDA Forest Service is proposing to change the name of the Wayne National Forest to the Buckeye National Forest. The effort comes in response to requests from American Indian Tribes and local community members.

During a fee-free day, motorized riders won’t have to purchase a trail pass to ride, and camping fees are waived for all non-reservable campgrounds.

Ohio’s free fishing days are THIS Saturday and Sunday, June 17th and 18th!

During these days, any Ohio resident can experience Ohio’s public fishing opportunities without purchasing a license. All size and bag limits apply during these two days.

Check out this southern adderstongue (Ophioglossum vulgatum)! While it may not look like it, this is actually a fern. Pretty strange, right?

This unusual plant can be found throughout much of the national forest, and is locally abundant.
