RFA Sir Galahad ~ Seeking the Truth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

This week at the Senedd, we had the privilege of meeting and, most importantly, listening to survivors and families affected by the RFA Sir Galahad tragedy.

On 8 June 1982, during the Falklands War, RFA Sir Galahad was attacked at Fitzroy. Forty-eight men lost their lives and more than 150 were injured, with the Welsh Guards suffering the majority of the casualties.

Behind every number was a father, husband, son, brother or friend.

More than four decades later, survivors and bereaved families are still seeking answers about the decisions surrounding that day and the remaining records from the subsequent inquiry. Five files containing hundreds of witness statements remain closed until 2065.

Why?

Last night, party colours didn’t matter. The search for truth did.

These families have waited long enough. They deserve answers, clarity and the opportunity to understand what happened to the people they loved.

I join survivors and families in calling on the UK Government and Ministry of Defence to release the remaining documents.

They served their country. Some gave their lives. Others came home forever changed.

We listened. We stand with them. Let’s bring their truth home. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧
