@5solas God gives us rain but he sends it through clouds. God did not directly give us the Bible with zero intermediaries.
God gave us the Bible through the church.
@AMDG_Derek Additionally the story Simon Stock (who was a real person) is almost certainly made up. This according to Catholic Father Herbert Therston, SJ, who did a thorough review of the evidence in 1904.
@AMDG_Derek Catholic here, I don’t think this devotion should be encouraged. Primarily because the alleged words of Mary “Whosoever dies wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire” are on their face untrue. Which is why when question it people will add a bunch of requirements to it.
@TGrudi “If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8. Vance is right
@RuslanKD “If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8. Vance is right
@smashbaals All those groups believe the church is the body of Christ, so they are all saying the same thing, they only disagree on who makes up the body of Christ.
@poperespecter1 You are doing the Lord’s work.
As for myself, my MO whenever I see a headline “Pope Francis XYZ” or “Vatican XYZ” is to disbelieve it until it have been established by two or three credible (not anonymous) witnesses. It’s saved me a lot of worrying over fake news
@Moderatemuch @DrBrainMD @TheOfficialMWB@IndianaBrunner@DF_UniatePapist This parable is straightforward. Some servants go hell with the unbelievers, the rest go to heaven after a severe beating, light beating, or no beating depending on their obedience and level of knowledge.
What part is confusing you?
Indulgences are the forgiveness of punishment, not forgiveness of sins.
The Bible explicitly affirms temporal punishment for sins both before and after death. Protestants do affirm for sins before death (unless you think all criminals who convert should be let out jail) and Luke 12:47-48 explicitly affirms it for after death “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows.”
So you’re saying Luke 12:47-48 is “absurd?”
@IndianaBrunner@DF_UniatePapist Oof, where do I start? 1) Indulgences are not the forgiveness of sins and 2) it has always been wrong to sell indulgences in the Catholic Church, it was being abused
@poperespecter1 I just had my first child and it made me realize that babies live entirely by faith. There is a reason why Jesus used children as a model of faith.
@FaithWithMase The Catholic Church can accept “Faith alone” if by “faith” you mean “faith formed by love”. But otherwise, yeah the church does not like “faith alone” and neither does the Bible.
@GregJenningsEsq@BornAgainMissy Don’t disagree with anything you just said. However, revelation 19:7-8 teaches that the wedding garments are the righteous deeds of the saints, whereas the OP said we have no righteousness but Christs.
