@serketmaxxing Artistic merit is when the game has a lot of build variety or a lot of rpg elements?
There’s clearly a lot to appreciate in the cohesive visual design and vision for the world and the detailed environments, music, performances, atmosphere etc
@original_twiggy@martobinka@fereldanwench That convo has such a ”in another life,” passing-ships kinda vibe. They are both just shaped by how they grew up and their circumstances, like everyone is
@NapoleonTheLast I agree largely, but RPG mechanics have been set dressing since da2. Even then they don’t matter that much in origins. I guess it depends on what u mean by rpg mechanics.
Veilguard is a bad, disappointing game regardless though, unfortunately
@illiterateprole not everything needs to be laid out step by step in dialogue/exposition. some things can be conveyed through imagery, music, atmosphere.
edgerunners has substance, it's just inferred. you feel it instead of having it explained to you. course it's not the deepest thing ever, but
@Yaski3r The whole point is that everyone is a person. That’s how real life works to. Even a group as disgusting as the scavs is still made up of people at the end of the day. It might feel incomprehensible but that’s the truth. They love and fear and get scared just like anybody else
@wesleytypes@CyberpunkGame@CDPROJEKTRED That would fix the issue you describe but would lose some things too
All interactions in game have this subtle extra layer cuz you know V is on borrowed time. It adds another dimension if you wish to read in to it
+ you would lose part of the relationship dynamic with Johnny
@seeunextautumn@meupcideal Yes! + they are always worse at being film than actual films are. So why not try to leverage the unique interactivity of the medium instead
@n7ciri Garrus is way too high, he’s so lame man. A corrupt, abusive cop turned cringe edgelord. Plus he’s just boring to talk to. And i hate the forced best friends bit. Like i barely know you, bro
@Plipster He’s an interesting character. He’s clearly wise in some ways, has a unique perspective, has values, and yet he’s still brainwashed into blind loyalty. He was vulnerable to this kind of thing because of how he grew up. He shows that we are all victims of our background
@PhiMorsou@BeanSlushiee I mean what cure is V and the nomads gonna find in 6 months that we couldn’t during the actual game? With no leads? Just doesn’t make any sense storytelling wise. And it’s super weird if one of the endings is just unequivocally happy. Thematically the ending is about acceptance
@junim0s I love that u can just do this unprompted in so many convos in this game.
And it wouldn’t work as well if these were shot reverse-shot dialogue scenes, like third person games use. One of the many unique benefits of first person only perspective
