Energy cost of an single operation in von Neumann architecture is kT ln 2 but current operations cost much more, due to the electronic interconnects. Tiny tiny lenses in a processing unit + metasurfaces is a recipe for efficient computing
If we built a neural network where the weights were lenses instead of vectors, for instance, and the input was light-shaped, the inference cost would be zero.
