😥A lost generation of young people. That’s what Welsh and UK governments have created.
💡The Welsh Lib Dems are the party of entrepreneurship, believing in young people and their ambitions, whatever they might be.
@LibDemDavid
I was recently on a panel with a senior Welsh Reform politician and we were asked about devolving the Crown Estate.
He said that Wales shouldn't have more powers because "we are not very good in Wales at being efficient in running things".
There are a few points I would make about the comment:
1. There are legitimate arguments for not devolving the Crown Estate. I chronicle them in my book. I do on balance believe it would be better for Wales if it was devolved (or at least the money from it was sent directly to Wales) but it is not inherently “anti-Wales” to be hesitant about the devolution of the Crown Estate.
2. However, the argument that “we are not very good in Wales at being efficient” is one of the most infantile descriptions of a nation I have ever heard, especially coming from a man/party who claimed they wanted to lead that nation. The idea that Wales and the Welsh are uniquely incapable of running something illustrates a level of self-hate and lack of confidence that we need to shed. It’s a narrative that holds us back more than almost anything.
3. Nothing says “I don’t think we will ever run the Welsh Government” like this statement. If Reform really believed they would one day have the levers of government at their disposal, they wouldn’t be so quick to deny Wales having them.
Welsh Young Liberals believe that a society built on strong institutions, rule of law and individual freedom is one where every person - regardless of who they love - can live with dignity and without fear.
Happy Pride. 🏳️🌈
The right to live your life as you choose, free from interference, persecution or prejudice. Not because the state grants you that right, but because it is yours by nature 🏳️🌈
I am genuinely grateful to the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Minister for Finance, Elin Jones, for writing to me and beginning a constructive working relationship. I will assist in any way I can to improve people’s lives in Wales.
During the campaign, Plaid Cymru said quite clearly that they would not work "in any shape or form" with Reform. I am thrilled they have U-turned on this decision within weeks of government.
Clearly, Reform is too big to ignore.
😡While Keir Starmer is spending money on nationalising the railways in England, Wales is owed £4 billion from HS2.
❌This is not an equal union. Constitutional change is needed, and fast!
I promised we would fix our broken railways.
Today Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express return to public ownership. Run for the public good, not private profit.
This Labour government is putting passengers first.
A pay rise for our Armed Forces is welcome news - but it’s long overdue.
🪖After years of being asked to do more with less, service personnel deserve fair pay that reflects their dedication and sacrifice.
Our Armed Forces are among the very best of us!
🏴🔶WELSH LIB DEMS WINNING HERE 🏴🔶
Congratulations to newly elected Cllr Beth Rowe in yesterday’s Fairwood (Swansea) Council By-Election! She’ll make a fantastic local champion.
Huge congratulations to our candidate Beth Rowe! It was a pleasure chipping in what we could to the campaign and this couldn't have gone to a better candidate!
If the First Minister is serious about jobs and the economy, he will need to show courage to do what Welsh Labour 🥀 failed to do.
‼️Dithering will do nothing for Wales.
🫠Zack Polanski having a meltdown over his dangerous views being held to account is right out of the Reform playbook. These people are completely unhinged.
