"Whether the US is right or wrong in its view, India is no longer seen as a power to be strengthened. It is instead a destination for US products, investments, and arms... The future is cold-eyed transactionalism," writes @BajpaiKanti . https://t.co/5KTl7fB6Tt

My op-ed in @timesofindia on the rupee:
https://t.co/bvVoq7bGZK
There is nothing automatic about foreign exchange running out. Only the RBI can deplete reserves. The policy question is whether to deplete reserves to support the rupee. I argue that there are ample grounds to let the rupee adjust to arrive at lower imports, higher exports, and to encourage capital inflows. Intervention in FX markets can wait another day.
I found Xi's reference to the 'Thucydides' Trap' very interesting because it tells us how China sees itself--a rising Athens in an order dominated by Sparta, the reigning power. This takes us to Mearsheimer's "offensive realism"--no reigning power would allow a rising power to establish regional hegemony. And the rising power would continue to expand its capacities and influence. The end result: persistent, structural geopolitical rivalry.

Peace remains India’s preference.
Peace, however, cannot be a bargain in which India supplies restraint while the other side supplies the next outrage…✍

In this op-ed, I outline eight lessons the PLA and other analysts draw from the US-Israel–Iran war and examine China’s strategic posture. I argue that Beijing has adopted calibrated restraint and strategic opportunism—avoiding direct involvement while letting other powers bear the costs of confrontation and preserving its own flexibility. https://t.co/AxKDz05Pcn
📢My new essay continues my work on the imp of the Great Nicobar project and in this essay I detail why India’s Great Nicobar Project is a strategic nightmare for the CCP’s maritime power projection. And China understands this only too well. Online link - https://t.co/lWnSLNoqb9
Great Nicobar Project: FAQs
The Great Nicobar Project is a strategic initiative to strengthen India's presence in the Andaman Sea. It seeks to balance port-led growth with calibrated environmental safeguards. Protection of indigenous communities remains central to its planning. The project combines strategic, economic, and ecological priorities. This ensures that development is sustainable, inclusive, and aligned with national interests.
The following FAQs provide an understanding of the key aspects of the project:
▶️Does the Great Nicobar Island Project serve a clear strategic and national purpose?
The Great Nicobar Island Project is a project of strategic, defence, and national importance, undertaken after due diligence and careful consideration. It is of critical national security and strategic significance. The project will substantially strengthen India's presence in the Andaman Sea and Southeast Asia, enhance maritime and defence capabilities, and integrate the island with global trade and logistics networks. It will also establish a major international transshipment terminal with distinct locational advantages over competing ports in the Bay of Bengal region, positioning India as a key economic and strategic hub.
▶️Is the project well-planned, feasible, and designed with long-term impact in mind?
The environmental impact of the project has been assessed in a detailed and multi-tiered manner in accordance with the Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 and Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2019, wherein due consideration has been given to the ecological sensitivity and biodiversity value of the island. Based on such assessment, a robust Environmental Management Plan, along with stringent and enforceable conditions, has been prescribed to avoid, minimise and mitigate any potential impacts.
