Just as any one of us can get #COVID19, any one of us can spread it. We need to avoid contact with others as much as possible.
We’re going to recover from this crisis, but first, we must get through it, and every one of us plays a vital role in that effort.
We are on hand with @GovernorTomWolf and @PSEAPres Rich Askey as the Gov announces billion dollar plan to remove lead/asbestos from schools & daycare centers. Should be unanimous support for such a basic right. No student should ever, EVER be exposed to toxins at school.
Last year our West Shore family sent 2,507 teddy bears and assorted stuffed animals to the @TheHersheyBears Teddy Bear Toss. This year our total is an unBEARlievable 3,276! THANK YOU students, families, and staff for participating, and to WSEA for organizing. 🧸 #WestShoreCares
“Students who could choose to become teachers are choosing not to...Money is obviously an issue...But over the past couple of decades teachers have also suffered a steady drumbeat of disrespect...[and] the loss of professional autonomy.”https://t.co/UIsH9csGSd
IN THE NEWS: We love to see our dedicated staff being recognized at the state level! Congratulations to Debra Barr, District Dental Hygienist, who is the featured in the July issue of PA Coalition for Oral Health's newsletter! Thank you for all you do Mrs. Barr! #WestShoreProud
It’s all over—including the shouting. @PSEA members be on lookout for a special budget report card in Connected. Great wins on funding and school safety. Work ahead on teacher evaluation and minimum starting salary. Those issues aren’t going anywhere (and neither are we!)
School Code clears PA House. Trauma Informed Education & Threat Assessment also pass unanimously(!) and head to @GovernorTomWolf. Great work @JasonOrtitay, @RepSappey, @SenatorBrowne, @SenHughesOffice, @Senatorcosta. These bills WILL make schools safer and healthier.
Despite some early 4th of July fireworks in @PaSenate last night we anticipate a budget bill reaching @GovernorTomWolf today. $160M more in BEF/$50M more in Special/$60M School Safety (flat)/$7M more in CTE+$3M in grants/$4.7M more in Community Colleges/ $9M more in PASSHE.
School safety bill passes @PaSenate unanimously. School Code passes 37-13. 45K minimum salary, educator evaluation reform & charter reform cut from deal at the last moment. Updates to follow. We will continue to push these important priorities this fall.
We don’t have “losers” in PSEA. We have caring impassioned educators that teach and support our students to become thoughtful and engaged citizens. We make a positive difference in lives everyday. https://t.co/0ti6wIR6Oa
Teachers don’t feel valued & their average salary is 5% less than it was in 2009. Record protests in 2018 are turning into record resignations. 2019 must be the year of the teacher. Time to improve both working conditions & salaries. @dintersmith https://t.co/4iupA8hrIL
More than 34,000 teddy bears were tossed onto the ice after the Hershey Bears won a hockey game against Binghamton. Fans who threw the bears—that will be donated to charity—helped the team break a world record, surpassing the previous one of 28,000 bears. https://t.co/iEIZj5svBC
Great article about what we can learn from schools in #Finland and a key factor to add: Finland has strong education unions who are always part of the picture. Nine out of ten teachers are unionized, and even politicians listen to them :) @oajry#edChat#1u
