@stevemagness This rings very true for me. I've done some training and races and didn't understand how to recover mentally and physically. I am now cautious about putting myself back there... even though I desperately want to race like that again.
@john_ford77 I don’t look at men’s WRs & think they’ve pushed the boundaries of human capabilities. I think they’ve pushed the boundaries of *male* ability. I’m more interested in women’s WRs cos they show what people with *female* bodies can achieve. It’s inspiring for 51% of the population.
Our national Census should count every one of us, properly. But we still don’t know how many LGBTIQ+ people there are in Australia. Join the campaign, calling on the ABS and Albanese Government to #CountUsIn2026?

Longing to be near the sea atm but making this arrangement took the edge off slightly. I design my photos to dial down anxiety & lift your mood slightly-much needed on here right now. Spend a few seconds focussing on the colours, patterns & details if you’re strung out:
The Nike ad gets greatness wrong.
It falls for a social media version of greatness... looking good to a few, but failing in the real world.
What works in the actual arena isn't a maniacal selfish, blinding obsession:

There were at least 180 publicly out #LGBTQ athletes at the last #Olympics .
If #TeamLGBTQ had been a nation they would have won
11 🥇
12 🥈
9 🥉
And placed 7th overall.
Every LGBTQ kid who was told they couldn’t compete should know - we can be champions!

Sport, excellence, work and achieving the results you want sometimes need a difficult decision. Stopping, going back can hurt. But it gives you knowledge to make a different choice, for a different outcome.
When everything is pulling you forward, quitting is the hardest thing to do.
It's the dilemma climbers face when they see the summit but know that they don't have the energy to make it back down.
Toughness isn't just pushing. It's being able to make the right long-term decision
So much of our focus in trying to spread improvements is in "explicit" knowledge: toolkits, good practice databases, standardised pathways etc. Most of the content that AI repurposes from online resources is explicit knowledge.
Yet the biggest opportunities are in "tacit" knowledge: the practical "know-how" rooted in people, their experiences, insights & judgements. Unlocking tacit knowledge is how organisations break past their internal barriers to innovate & improve.
Thanks @tnvora for a striking new version of the explicit/tacit iceberg picture. Tanmay has also written an excellent blog on how to unlock tacit knowledge: https://t.co/IkfVQK4DBE
This is massive
Supreme Court rules WCs can sued for nuisance or trespass for dumping sewage even if “There has been no negligence or deliberate misconduct”, by the WC
That opens the way for 1,000s of claims by fishing clubs, swimmers, riparian owners against WCs. WOW just WOW!
We've been recognised as a Bronze Tier Employer at the Australian Workplace Equality Index Awards, recognising our demonstration of foundational and progressive efforts toward making all workplaces inclusive for those who identify as LGBTQ+. https://t.co/ifi353392r
I’m furious about this. Still not had mine.
And it turns out not receiving your postal vote isn’t grounds to get an emergency proxy. So I’ve been denied my vote.
Action bias. Football goalkeepers will jump to the left or right when facing penalties, even though statistically they'd be better off just staying in the middle. Action bias is the tendency to choose action over inaction, even where there's no indication that taking action will help. We tend to (falsely) equate activity with productivity & keeping control. We see action bias frequently in the improvement world. When results don't come quickly, leaders will want more changes, rather than waiting for the improvements to work their way through the system. Deliberately deciding to do nothing is a good practice/skill that improvement leaders need: https://t.co/xXazrA4695. By @TheDecision_Lab
Measuring impact. There's an increasing focus on demonstrating impact in our work in improvement, change & knowledge creation. But while we're so busy measuring impact, is anything actually changing? Data & measurement are important but they're not enough to create change, particularly in complex systems. Here's a brilliant new discussion article that offers:
1) A history of impact measurement and how its cultural roots are affecting how we think about impact today
2) How "value" skews impact measures
3) How the more uncertain things become, the more the push for methods that help us generate a sense of certainty grows - which should make us question them
4) How might we pragmatically frame ‘impact measurement’ in the context of complex challenges & work to improve systems?

Trying to rush development is like forcing a sapling to grow faster by pulling on it.
It might feel like you are doing something. The tree might appear to get a little taller. Hut in reality, you've either ruined its roots or damaged it.
Patience. Don't rush development.
What does a high-performance environment look like?
Relentless work ethic, high expectations and standards, excellence, optimization, accountability?
Maybe...it's simpler: Fun.

A further graphic that makes the powerful point that we have to think differently about "failure" if we want to build psychological safety for high performance in our teams & organisations. It's inspired by @AmyCEdmondson. The ideas are further developed in her latest book "Right kind of wrong". Graphic by @Adrien_Liard via @TheQI_Guy.
#Inclusivity is so important and needs to be taken into account during the design process of buildings and spaces. For this reason, we've supported the creation of this guidance around Inclusive Design for Structural Engineers. #Engineering#BuiltEnvironment
