@steveMmattison The end goal for this winch is to autonomously adjust the length of the line to track with our UUV during testing.
This means the winch has to be able to pay out line quickly without building slack, which requires a secondary tensioner motor and PID/software to sync the motors

Spent today stress testing the code I wrote to run a motorized winch, including dragging a 60-pound storage box across the warehouse floor.
@drtod1000 Completely agree! The point of the post is to point out how cool it is that making something worth selling and getting to drag 60-pound boxes around a warehouse turns out to be the same job.
Making the product work well in extreme conditions improves the product.
@agentorangego Main obstacles that popped up were how noncompliant the line was between two noncompliant spinning elements: needed super dialed PID. Also had to revise my approach multiple times to deal with motor overheating.
