Farmers in the Philippines are turning banana plants into a fabric that can replace plastic!
The fabric is called Bananatex, and it's made from abacá, a type of banana plant that grows incredibly fast in the Philippine highlands.
The fabric can be treated with sustainable water-repellent finishes, making it strong enough for backpacks and outdoor gear.
Bananatex is now helping companies 'replace plastics with plants' in their products, and it provides income for farmers in the Philippines while helping restore forests too. (1 min, 3 sec)

This #JaneGoodallDay, we honor the life and legacy of pioneering scientist, conservationist, animal advocate, educator, and National Geographic Explorer Jane Goodall, whose groundbreaking chimpanzee research helped redefine our relationship with humans' closest relatives. #StepIntoWonder
Today we honour Dr. Jane Goodall — scientist, environmentalist and @UN Messenger of Peace.
Born #OnThisDay, her life’s work reminds us that empathy, respect for nature and #equality are deeply connected.

KILLER FASHION
The fashion industry is responsible for ~10% of global CO₂ emissions, guzzles water, pollutes rivers with toxic dyes, and sheds hundreds of thousands of plastic microfibers into the ocean with every wash.

A groundbreaking bill in New Zealand aims to grant legal personhood to whales.
If passed, the Tohorā Oranga Bill would transform whales from protected wildlife into legal entities with enforceable rights, allowing them to be represented in court to defend their habitats and well-being.
Introduced by Green Party MP Teanau Tuiono and strongly supported by Māori and Pacific leaders, the legislation is deeply rooted in tikanga Māori, which regards whales (tohorā) as sacred ancestors rather than mere animals. The bill would recognize whales as legal persons with inherent rights to free migration, natural behavior, and a healthy environment.
This landmark proposal builds on New Zealand’s pioneering legal precedents, such as granting personhood to the Whanganui River and Mount Taranaki, complete with appointed human guardians. By extending similar rights to whales, the bill would enable legal action to be taken on their behalf whenever their habitats or migration routes are threatened.
The legislation represents a profound shift in conservation law — moving away from traditional resource management toward a model where nature itself has enforceable rights and a voice in court.
#Krill
Norway is deploying 30 ft (9 m) drones to locate areas of highest krill density in Antarctica.
They're using AI, sonar, airborne drones and USVs (unmanned surface vehicles).
Powerful AI predicts krill biomass hotspots 6 to 12 hours in advance, while VTOL drones confirm signals before vessel redeployment, which is predicted to increase daily krill catch by 22%.
It's not just how much the trawlers take, but where. They'll be robbing the richest feeding grounds from the wildlife which depends on them.
#Extinction
It will soon be time to say goodbye.
This is the smallest primate in the world—Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur.
This unique species is on the edge of extinction due to uncontrolled slash & burn of their Madagascan forest.
The IUCN warns they could be gone by 2030.
We LOVE to see this ✨👏
