NLC and TUC Strike Summary

It started after fuel subsidy was removed.

They're simply asking FG to increase the minimum wage from 30k and revert to old price of electricity. Or, reduce politicians salary to 30k from around 40million.

Labour initially demanded 615k for living wage.

FG offered 48k, NLC suggested 464k.

Then FG offered, 57k then 60k.

NLC were angered by FG's offer of 60k from 494k asking price. Then they proceeded with a total nationwide shutdown, affecting Lagos airport, Abuja airports both local and international, national grid, ports, transportation services (air, water, rail, road), Nurses, Civil Service, All sea ports, Asuu and many more.

They're having an emergency meeting with SGF, Secretary General of the Federation. With heavy military presence.

The strike did not come as a surprise, because they've been warning the Nigerian government about it for about eight months.

Some citizens are calling for the arrest of Labour chairman, Joe Ajaero because when Adams Oshiomole was Labour chairman, Obasanjo arrested him in 2009.
