How the Ethiopian government is committing war crimes by taking the family members of Fano fighters hostage to pressure the fighters to surrender:

The Ethiopian government has been using this inhumane tactic for some time. The Fano fighter you see in this video explains how they have been trying to capture him for a long time to no avail. When they couldn't find him, they went after his wife and two daughters. His wife had closed their cafe and had been in hiding with their two daughters, age 2 and 5, for their safety since the Ethiopian army had been looking for them. The Ethiopian army was able to find out where they were hiding by paying local bandas (sellouts). They told his wife that they had been looking for her husband but since they can't find him they will take her with them. She told them that she does not know his whereabouts, that he had joined Fano a long time ago and she has been busy raising the kids and couldn't help them. They took her away. She begged them to let her take her kids somewhere safe so someone can look after them but they refused and left the kids in the dark. The Fano fighter says that he does not know where they took his wife or where his daughters are, but that he will pay whatever sacrifice is needed to defend the Amhara people and come out victorious.

This government doesn’t even show sympathy to children, it doesn’t show sympathy to women. Instead of finding Fano on the battlefield to defeat it, it goes after children and women. Even if they kill my wife and children, I will not leave the struggle and be an obstacle to the movement. We will have to make a lot of sacrifices to win the struggle. We have to grind our teeth through these sacrifices and come out victorious. Victory to the oppressed Amhara people. ~ Fano fighter

In the past two days, the Amhara region's Gojjam has been thrust into a state of turmoil as Ethiopian military forces reportedly launched over eight drone strikes on civilians and their properties. Locals, incensed by the brutal attacks, have abandoned their homes, swelling the ranks of the Amhara Fano—a response fueled by the military's alleged deliberate targeting of civilians to extract information about Fano hideouts.

The failure of the Ethiopian military to capture a single Amhara Fano member has resulted in frustration, escalating to a grim toll on civilians. Amidst the chaos, the Amhara Fanos have managed to capture government soldiers, further intensifying hostilities.

The scale of the attacks is deeply disturbing, with drone strikes and heavy artillery barrages hitting bus stations, schools, churches, and even farmers collecting harvested crops in their fields. The intentional destruction of crops, an essential livelihood for many, aims to render the locals dependent on the government while breaking their spirits. This move has further fueled anger among the populace.

The Amhara Fanos, enjoying widespread local support due to several massacres of ethnic Amharas, stand as a formidable force against the Ethiopian military. The government troops, viewed as enemies by the locals, are met with staunch resistance. The growing tension and animosity between the military and the local population have exacerbated an already dire situation.

Internally displaced people, who sought refuge in camps due to the ongoing war in Amhara, find themselves among the victims of the drone strikes and artillery attacks. Reports suggest that Ethiopian military forces have been given a direct order to target civilians and their properties, aiming to exhaust and demoralize the populace.

As the crisis intensifies, Gojjam, home to the capital of the Amhara region, Bahir Dar, is now under complete siege by Ethiopian military forces. The blockade has left residents without access to electricity, internet, food, and other basic necessities, exacerbating an already dire situation.Disturbingly, reports, including those from the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, highlight instances of extrajudicial killings and street executions targeting ethnic Amharas in various parts of Gojjam.

The situation underscores the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.
