Some folks are saying I won for “demographic” reasons.
1st of all, that’s false. We won w/voters of all kinds.
2nd, here’s my 1st pair of campaign shoes. I knocked doors until rainwater came through my soles.
Respect the hustle. We won bc we out-worked the competition. Period.
“Instead of incorporating mental health resources, we’re militarizing schools and constructing a school-to-prison pipeline that convinces inner-city students they will be nothing but criminals.” - 17 year old Milwaukee native, Bria Smith

Gun violence hurts us all. It’s okay if you can’t find the words to express yourself right now. You don’t need to constantly be fighting injustice.

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #goodtrouble
I don’t want this to just be MY story, I want it to be part of HERstory, and the journey of women across the nation as we rise up to the call for leadership roles.
But, most importantly, that it has been done before and I’m not alone. Each leader faces their own challenges, and those challenges (probably) become more complex with more intersections of race, class, age, sexuality, gender, etc.
I want to run for office one day. Organizations like @IGNITE_National and @EmergeAmerica/@EmergeCA have really motivated me to do just that. But, I feel that a major road block is my mental health.
I’m hoping to highlight that regardless, I will be successful.
@WomenHealthLead is me! I’ve started a new project where I will be exploring the intersection of being a woman, having mental health disorders, and being a leader in the world today. Please follow back if you’d like to watch the journey!
