Maybe if he'd just forcefully said, "You know what? I am not going to put black people back in chains, and I have paid my taxes, and Harry Reid is a liar," we would not be here.
But he didn't.
@Generation4580@JustinWStapley Exactly.
Repeal the Motor Voter Act, for a start, and we'll talk about the extent the Feds can/should dictate state election law. Until then, I don't want to hear it. Not a word.
@JustinWStapley The constitution specifically gives Congress the power to "by Law make or alter such [state] Regulations". There is no constitutional issue here.
As for "federalism", until Dems repeal Motor Voter (among other things), pound sand. That ship has sailed.
This is why we got Trump.
@physicsgeek He impressed me during the campaign but he's been a huge disappointment since being in office. I'm not sure what happened but yeah, I'm about done with him especially given Rubio's stellar performance during the same timeframe.
@JoaquinCastrotx I know it's the Tribune so a healthy skepticism is required, but they say these were the federal government's buoys. If that's true, they can't be Abbott's.
@PolitiBunny I've wondered this for a while, it does seem like the best of both worlds. But I'm sure there are ramifications beyond the initial adjustment period I'm not thinking of. I assume we call it "high noon" for a reason.
@KenGardner11 Why is making them "return to the negotiating table" the objective? As if anything is going to be different this time.
Not that he was going to leave much of legacy to begin with but these endless threat cycles is putting him in Biden/Carter territory.
@DrinkOutTheBox@ShamashAran I'm not sure what Collins has to do with this but there are elections in Georgia and Texas and probably others where anger at the GOP's continuing cowardice and ineptitude may well keep the base at home.
@politicalsock I'm old enough to remember when they got Bill Clinton's former campaign manager to moderate a Republican primary debate and he immediately jumped on Romney about birth control which Romney had never once made an issue of.
The Stupid party.
@bulkeley_john@bonchieredstate Biden certainly threw gasoline on the fire but the seeds that grew into this idiot ultimately being elected to Congress were sewn long before he and even Obama were in charge.
