How are the police supposed to stop people singing antisemitic songs and holding antisemitic placards, when there are half a million 'good people' rallying round to protect them?

If the police know there's nothing they can do, it's easier for them if they say there was nothing they needed to do?

If they say: "there was lots of antisemitic chanting and placards, but we didn't have the power to do anything about it, what would we say then?

And are antisemitic chants and placards illegal? It's not the job of Police to police speech, is it? Their job is to ensure public order. And to deal with incitement.

But if the half million people are chilled with the antisemitism, or if they deny it, then there's no threat to public order.

The only possibility of a threat to public order would be if there were Jews about. So, presumably, if there were Jews about, the police would move them away, kettle them or arrest them?

And if there are no Jews about, then the antisemitism isn't incitement to violence in a direct sense, because there's no violence.

If a carload of guys drive up to New London and menace Jews there, is that direct enough to have been incited?

In the end, it's not the job of the police to stop antisemitism. How could they?

It's the job of the labour movement.

So if the labour movement is antisemitic, then whose job is it to fix that?

Well, it's the police, and the schools, and the universities, and the BBC, and the CPS .... etc.

And if the schools, the universities, the BBC and the CPS tolerate and protect antisemitism... then what?

One answer is that we need to do what we do better. CST, LAAS, JLM, CAA, LCSCA, BoD, JLC ... etc.

We need to create a big, mainstream liberal democratic movement against antisemitism. It cannot be left to Jews.

What if the mainstream liberal democratic institutions are the antisemites?

Some people, defeated, turn their frightened eyes towards the right wing populists, who mirror the antisemites rather than really opposing them. And they fuel it and are fueled by it, rather than diminishing it.

But in the end, this: it is best to live in a liberal democratic state. Most people know this. People risk their lives to cross the Med and the Rio Grande, because they know this.

There is a natural majority against antisemitic conspiracy fantasy, because there is a majority for the liberal democratic state. In the end, we'll win.

But we would really rather not be the canary lying dead on the floor of its cage, so that the miners notice that they are at risk too.
