We develop technologies for discovering ocean biology and change – investigating the evolution, activities, and dynamics of microbes, algae, and their predators
Please #RT! Exciting polar diving course organised in March at Kilpisjärvi @helsinkiuni in Lapland by the @Fin_Sci_Diving. Also featuring Rod Budd serving as
@AntarcticaNZ DSO, and Patrick "Pata" Degerman with extensive experience of polar expeditions!

🌊Exciting News! Dive into the wonders of #OceanObservations with "Journey with Ocean Observers", our comic book for young minds!
Edited by @oceanops_goos & @EuroArgoERIC within #OceanObservers
Thanks @EuroSea for making this educational journey possible

I published something not related to plastid evolution!! Diving deep into the transcriptional changes of a marine green alga during nutrient limitation, I found some surprises involving tRNA modifications and codon usage https://t.co/t1F3hJzxXA
Excited about #polar research, bioinformatics and machine learning? Come and do your #PhD with us as part of @MOSAiCArctic in collaboration with Vincent Moulton @OceanFMonteiro@richardmleggett @ARIES_DTP @ueaenv
Closing date: 10th January 2024

BBSRC funded #PhD Studentship available in my group! Please share. @NRPBIODTP@ueaenv
The role of light-driven proton pumps🔽(Microbial Rhodopsins) in #algae

We will re-advertise this #PhD project. Project start date: October 2023. Get in touch if you are interested in polar #diatoms, #metals, #climate change and #evolution. This time, applications only from U.K. residents will be considered (Not my rules). #Arctic#SeaIce@ueaenv
Didn’t even allow a translator for this foreign student when she requested one!!! What is US immigration trying to accomplish? And they don’t even understand that oceanography uses ships, and little ol’ scientists don’t own ships, govt.’s do, hence ships have natl. flags.
Can’t believe how badly immigration treated a graduate student, a bunch of male officers interrogating her on and off for 24 hrs, 5 of them!!! They took all her PhD data (on ocean algae!), computer…wouldn’t give me any access to check in her…incredibly sad day for America
Just here at Logan after immigration detained our student and wouldn’t even let us have contact, even though she has the same entry authorization as another student she was traveling with.
My editorial is kicking off a new series of perspective papers @JPhycology to provide insights into the latest developments of algal models for addressing fundamental questions in #biology. We will have ca. 2 papers per issue in volume 59 (2023).

Enjoyed working this week with next gen scientists in our @GEOMAR_en marine micro practical with @ute_hentschel examining the great plate anomaly via microscopy, flow and plating! Wow the non marine test plate of a public scooter handle was scary! (Marine were beautiful 😉)
Was fun helping the @BBC team to produce the footage shown in episode II. We show sea-ice #diatoms (and copepods) attached to ice crystals in a sea-ice chamber. Credits to Robert Utting and Maria Luisa Sánchez Montes from our lab for helping with the diatom cultures! @ueaenv
My lab @SystBio_UU is hiring, several positions (two PhDs and one postdoc) available in connection with the @ERC_Research CoG PlastidOrigin. Links to the ads and information here: https://t.co/HO0g3SsNOO
I would greatly appreciate sharing broadly this information, many thanks
This isn’t a new paper from Broman, Sjostedt, @JPinhassi and Dopson, but wanted to share because it’s so interesting! Shifts in coastal sediment oxygenation cause pronounced changes in microbial community composition and associated metabolism https://t.co/6MZzizcrv4
Great to get together with former Worden Lab members Lilly @e_hehenberger who now has her own group in the Czech Republic, and Cami Poirier now at the Richards Lab @AncestralState along with current folks @GEOMAR while at the EMBO workshop
