So just to be clear, and as I just said on ITV News at Ten, this Tweet by Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a summary of the formal ceasefire proposal drafted by him in partnership with Starmer and Macron and Rutte. It has been submitted to President Trump. The question on which so much hangs is whether Trump sees it as a basis of peace negotiations with Putin and for rebuilding relations with Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
In relation to placating Trump, Zelenskyy said three relevant things
1) sorry, President Trump
2) you are the boss, President Trump
3) I’ll sign the transfer of precious mineral rights to you, without a prior commitment from you to guarantee our security (though I’d still like to have that guarantee, if peace is to be sustainable).
That is a colossal quantity of humble pie for a war-time leader to eat. Will it persuade Trump that - in his terms - Zelenskyy can be trusted? Will it persuade Trump to reverse his ban on military aid to Ukraine?
I’ve asked those who might know or even have a hunch. They don’t know, on the basis that forecasting Trump is a fools errand.
"We can walk and chew gum at the same time," says one EU diplomat, in a hint there could be simulataneous negotations across multiple sectors, as the UK seeks to reset its post-#brexit trade deal. But don't get too excited just yet, warns @BBCKatyaAdler

Fascinating to work on this story for @BBCNews and hear the perspectives of the families at the sharp end of Labour’s upcoming VAT hike on private schools. 1/3 of pupils @WestonbirtSch affected by some kind of special educational need, says head @NatashaDangers
Wow, the @Conservatives are indeed going long! We won’t know the new Tory leader until Sat 2nd November. The top 4 candidates will be whittled down to 2 at the party conference in Birmingham. Finally the members WILL get a say #leadership#toryleader
Great to follow Green Party co-leader @carla_denyer, Labour's @DanAldridgeWSM & @LibDemCam around Westminster this week, as they took their first steps into the House of Commons. This is my report for BBC One's Politics West 😇 #newmps
I'm delighted to tell you all 7 main parties how now confirmed they will take part in the MoneySavingExpert leaders debate. Where we put key consumer finance questions to them all (in writing) and they tell us their policy. I've just finalised the 15 questions with the team - thanks for all the suggestions.
Tory MP and former health minister Dan Poulter has defected to Labour, saying this to @tobyhelm and The Observer which broke the story: “It feels to me that the Tory party has gone from being a pragmatic, centrist, centre-right party which focused on and understood the importance of public service and the state to deliver certain things …and had a compassionate outlook on key issues. It has gone from that and feels like it has become a nationalist party of the right, much more of what we see in Europe.” Poulter’s defection shines a light on one of the big uncertainties in politics today which is whether the Tory Party will hold together or split after the election. https://t.co/qnDqdq7lgf

Thoroughly enjoyed quick dip into @CamillaTominey’s @GBNEWS Sunday show! Very pertinent question @bphillipsonMP: when you suddenly impose VAT on private schools, how do you suddenly accommodate thousands of displaced pupils? A distinctive policy & @UKLabour needs a slicker answer
Labour’s shadow Commons leader @LucyMPowell admits she “didn’t spend much on alcohol” when she went raving at the Hacienda in the 90s. Lively Woburn Partners fringe panel on the future of the nighttime economy 🪩 🌒 #Lab23
There appears to be a big price for Boris Johnson from asking for his substantial privileges-committee legal costs to be paid by taxpayer. Cabinet office refers him to police after seeing his private diaries. Says @thetimes
When I go to @GreggsOfficial and order a sausage roll, I don’t wish to clarify that I would like a *meat* sausage roll. Yet that’s what’s happened twice now at Westminster tube! If I wanted a vegan version, I would ask for it! @O2#o2priority
Great to work on this tale of trouble in Environment Secretary @ThereseCoffey's backyard with @JoshuaNevett. Most people like offshore wind, but it still needs to be cabled up somewhere. These feisty campaigners have some novel solutions to protect the gorgeous Suffolk coast!
