I watched the expose last night . I have always maintained that we still have very good officers in the Police Service . The Homa Bay County Police Commander is one such good specie . He admits helplessness in favour of the State coordinated violence with pain . Watched Hon George Peter Opondo Kaluma describe the police commander as stupid in despicable luo accent with no joy that this is an Mp who sits in the Parliamentary security committee. That such a leader must s still spewing hatred and vitriol without being brought to book is telling . The Governor is a daughter, a sister , a wife and a mother ! A new Bill has been proposed in Parliament that seeks to restrict access to some state information by classifying it as Top Secret, Secret, Confidential or Restricted.

The Bill could allow some information to remain classified for up to 30 years.

How the Abduction/Killer squad operating under DCI evolved into a full blown political militia.

For years, allegations of a shadowy “killer squad” operating in Kenya attracted nowhere near the public outrage they deserved. Its existence was treated almost as an open secret: terror suspects would allegedly be abducted outside the ordinary criminal justice system; wealthy individuals and foreigners would disappear, some later turning up dead; and private citizens with the right connections could enlist the services of people linked to these networks. The most disturbing feature was always the suggestion that those involved operated outside the conventional police chain of command, answering instead to figures whose identities and authority remained deliberately obscure.

For a long time, however, most Kenyans could regard this machinery as something that happened to other people: suspected terrorists, criminals, foreigners or individuals caught in murky disputes, even when they abducted and deported Miguna Miguna nobody cared to raise the alarm cause they thought it’s too far from happening to them. That distance made indifference possible. But once widespread public dissent began to threaten the political establishment in 2024, the same methods appeared to migrate from the shadows into ordinary political life. Suddenly, a critical post on X, participation in a protest or outspoken opposition to the government could allegedly be followed by abduction, detention incommunicado or disappearance. And many times death like Albert Ojwang and Denzel Omondi.

If these allegations are borne out, what Kenya is confronting is not the sudden invention of political repression but the expansion of machinery that was tolerated while its victims remained socially or politically distant. The script did not fundamentally change; only the pool of potential targets did. A country that once looked away because the violence seemed confined to the margins is now being forced to confront what happens when an apparatus permitted to operate beyond law and accountability eventually turns its attention towards everyone else. Now they target anyone indiscriminately, it is so bad that even govt officials live in constant fear of this rogue police squad including the Inspector General of police.

The moniker pumbafu became an everyday insult, albeit jokingly. What Kenyans did not know was that the object of the insult was one Zachary Kariuki. Kariuki was President Kibaki's driver and had parked the armoured vehicle on grass.

Insiders at DCI say his fleet includes 14 new Subarus, one D-Max, a Ford Ranger and a Toyota Double Cab. The source says the many Subarus that were doing rounds during protests belong to his unit.

Despite repeated attempts by the Standard Group to ask the head of DCI to take action, DCI boss Mohamed Amin has refused to allow sleuths to come and lift fingerprints from the vehicle Kiprotich was abducted from. During the abduction, the four heavily armed and masked men left their fingerprints on the windows, doors and windscreen.
