I understand the reasoning behind having affirmative action, but I do find it somewhat unfair that someone who is more unqualified can get a job, or into a college over someone because of this. I think the most qualified people should be accepted for anything. #socl214

I had never actually heard the term “model minorities”, but I really don’t think that’s a very good way of describing anyone. I think it’s pretty derogatory and bad in general. #socl214

I feel like the word privilege has been thrown around so often, that it has, in some ways, lost some of its meaning and power. I think people overuse and abuse it when talking about certain things, and it has become problematic. #socl214

I had never heard of the phrase pelo bueno, pelo malo, and it surprised me to hear the stories about how they faced hardships over their hair. I never would have thought that someone's hair could cause so much turmoil, it was very surprising. #socl214

@RafaelPatience I also never really paid any attention to the awards, but I would hope that they would be choosing solely based upon who the best actor, or actress was. I wouldn't want someone who deserves the role more to not get it solely based on race. But again, I don't follow the awards so.

I didn't realize that all of the Oscar winners for best actor and supporting actor were white. I truthfully hope that they can continue to choose who truly deserves the role, and not choose the winner solely based on race. That would create much bigger issues. #socl214

@its_naenaee I also had never heard of the concept, and I thought it was very interesting how someone could have a combination of many different oppressions, which makes sense, but isn't right.

I never really thought of the possibility that someone could be suffering from multiple types of oppression. I can't imagine how hard that would be, especially in one's workplace. #socl214
