It does work. I did the same thing. It was someone pretending to be the IRS wanting me to pay back taxes in Apple gift cards. I told them I would go to the store, buy the cards and call them back. The gave me their number, I spent a few minutes writing a quick and dirty program to repeatedly call them back. I got a few laughs at them yelling at me to stop calling. After a few hours I was getting the message the number was out of service. While I was tying up their line, that was fewer people they could scam.

@zippy257 @Rainmaker1973 I did the exact same thing a few years ago, minus the music, but I verified the number was not spoofed before I set my program loose on them. In the end they disconnected that number.

I did almost the same thing years ago. Motivated by a IRS spam caller wanting fake back taxes paid by Apple gift cards. I pulled out an old dialup modem, wrote a quick program and ran the call back program on repeat. After many hours, I got the message the number was no longer in service. Every call my program made that they answered kept them from scamming someone else.
