As Donald Trump celebrates the renaming of the Kennedy Center to the so-called “Trump-Kennedy Center,” let’s all acknowledge how this happened.

Trump purged the existing Kennedy Center board, replaced longtime trustees with loyalists aligned with his administration, and then had that hand-picked board vote to install him as chairman and slap his name onto a national cultural institution.

This wasn’t honor or tradition. It was a deliberate takeover, turning a nonpartisan monument to American arts and history into a vanity project built through political muscle and self-dealing.
