Open events were the shit. There was something special about the MLG pro circuit being on tour, coming to your city and everyone being able to pull up.
You buy a team pass and go as far as your skill takes you. Get a shot at the pros. Maybe even end up on main stage if you were good enough. The allure of that was unmatched.
Golden age of esports
If you are complaining about ALGS not paying for anything other than flights for a LAN of this magnitude you weren’t around for MLG days where you’d stuff 6 people into a single double bed, sleep on the floor, save for months/do anything you can to see your dream come true
For the better part of a decade, competitive Call of Duty fans built the esport from the ground up.
There was minimal developer support then, when the scene was at its peak, the suits forced their ideas in where they weren’t warranted and the fans suffered.
Now, having realised their endeavour wasn’t a runaway success, like it was never destined to be anyway, the suits take a living from the hard workers that kept the spirit of the esport alive. Shameful.
A light day in the esports referee office.
Always wished this could've been defused before getting to this point. But also one of many reasons why esports refs are needed
@ACHES You were a handful to referee while on Complexity as the "detriment" 😅 But I always admired the passion, skill, and smarts you brought to CoD. Congrats on a hell of a career
