Trauma can make friendships difficult. It can feel like trying to find the balance between being “too needy” and “building walls”in service of protection.
If as a child you were viewed as “too much” it’s difficult to take up space in a relationship.
If, growing up, the only true safety we experienced was in our imagination or fantasy worlds created by authors or directors, it's not exactly surprising we have trouble staying present as adults.
Dissociation is a reflexive, conditioned response to a pervasive lack of safety.
It’s Truth & Reconciliation month in Canada. The truth is ugly, uncomfortable and dangerous- dangerous to the status quo. But, the outcomes we’re striving for are healing and beautiful. We aren’t finished going through the storm of reckoning, but at least we’re facing it. Keep holding on to hope. 💕🙏🏾
