For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

@Olares_OS@alphamoves2marz I still want to make a late pledge, I'd really love to get in the shipping window but the kickstarter looks closed, can you help?
Proof that when you tug on a ratchet strap, regardless of circumstances, it's never coming off nor breaking.
The words "that's not going anywhere" hold magical and religious significance, as it's the uttered words of an ancient spell, ever holding.
Even the bottom of the ocean, imploded by a thousand atmospheres, does the spell not waver in its commitment.
So, remember lads. Always tug the strap and utter the words "that's not going anywhere"
@matthewkheafy Chef's choice, brothers. Ten albums and no stinkers, I wouldn't dare put my thumb on the scales for eleven.
That said, Shogun (Track) has a feeling that would be awesome to see captured again.
@eshear For me, it’s acknowledging that we’re part of a nature documentary. It’s our nature to build these things just as beavers build dams. If we are ultimately threatened by new intellenge, it’s humanity’s crowning achievement, having created a higher trophic level never seen before.
@nosilverv Yeah, I know every quale. Know everything there is to know about every oneof'em. The kicker is I've never actually experienced any of 'em. Funny that.
@HephaistosF Reserve core skill changes to BIG choices/consequences since they multiply in impact as skills rise. PC loses an arm? -1 dex. Maybe PC is a debate club nerd. Low CHR, but leveled up persuasion skill. Change physical appearance, now you're persuasive AND hot. Multiplied effect.
@HephaistosF Static, and build skills as a layer on top of core attributes which can be increased by exp/lvlup. Eg. CON score is 10, athletics lvl1 is 1.0 factor =10. Level athletics to 2, and factor changes to 1.1! Respects both the character rolled, and progress/choices over time.
@nosilverv Now the way it's presented, the Butcher is FAR more interesting than the movie doc. It's immediately intriguing when someone successful has bucked social norms and succeeded. It's why we like socially awkward actors, and neuro-divergent entrepreneurs etc.
@nosilverv I think the intrigue of the butcher in this example relies on the first sentence qualifier. If there were no statement of qualification other than they're both technically surgeons, almost everyone picks the one who looks like the movie doctor. Unavoidable human subconscious
@nosilverv But they in turn require saving. It seems net zero at best. As soon as there is real world context there are tons of reasons to go blue, but as written I just don't see it.
@nosilverv Shocking that with nothing at stake, 2/3 people still go out of their way to do something reckless requiring society to save them from themselves. What's the benefit, camaraderie?
@chaosprime I answered 1000, predicated on the assumption that X was aware of the precaution and willfully neglected it because they judged 10 units of bad to not justify the precaution. 1000 bad was difficult to foresee for X, but is exactly the reason the precaution is in place.
