Five years ago, on August 16, 2021, @IndianExpress published this interview with me, shortly after I took charge as Tamil Nadu’s Finance & HRM Minister. Social media has a way of bringing such moments back to us.

Reading it again after five years, I find myself reflecting on whether my work in office was consistent with the vision and ambitions I expressed in that conversation.

The interview touched on fiscal responsibility, better use of public resources, data-driven governance, federalism and the balance between a strong Union and empowered States. Over the years that followed, I had the opportunity to engage with each of these issues in practice during my time in government.

Five years later, I find myself wondering: are many of those themes even more relevant today?

2019-ல் அப்போதைய தமிழக அமைச்சர் K. பாண்டியராஜன், “ஸ்டாலின் உண்மையிலேயே MISA கைதியாக இருந்திருந்தால், ஷா கமிஷன் ஆவணங்களில் அவரது பெயர் ஏன் இல்லை?” என்று கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்.

அதேபோல், முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் D. ஜெயக்குமாரும், ஷா கமிஷனிலும் இஸ்மாயில் கமிஷனிலும் ஸ்டாலின் பெயர் இடம்பெறவில்லை என்று கூறி, தலைவர் ஸ்டாலினின் MISA சிறைவாசத்தையே கேள்விக்குள்ளாக்கினார்.

ஷா கமிஷன் ஒவ்வொரு MISA கைதியின் பெயரையும் கொண்ட முழுமையான கைதிகள் பதிவேடு அல்ல.

இதற்கு மேலாக, இவர்களின் கண்களுக்கு முன்னாலேயே இருக்கும் மிக முக்கியமான சமகால நாடாளுமன்றப் பதிவு இருக்கிறது.

8 மார்ச் 1976, ராஜ்யசபா அதிகாரப்பூர்வ விவாதப் பதிவு

தலைவர் ஸ்டாலின் பிப்ரவரி 1976-ல் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சிறையில் இருந்த சில வாரங்களிலேயே, அன்றைய நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் G. லக்ஷ்மணன், ராஜ்யசபாவில் தெளிவாகக் கூறுகிறார்:

“The Chief Minister’s son Mr. Stalin was arrested under MISA…”

அதுமட்டுமல்லாமல், தலைவர் ஸ்டாலினின் மனைவியை 10 நாட்கள் அவரைச் சந்திக்க அனுமதிக்கவில்லை என்றும் அவையில் பதிவு செய்துள்ளார்.

1976-லேயே, அவர் சிறையில் இருந்த காலத்திலேயே, நாடாளுமன்றத்தின் அதிகாரப்பூர்வப் பதிவில் இடம்பெற்ற சமகால சாட்சியம்.

மேகதாது விவகாரம் போல இதிலும் வாய்மூடி இருக்காமல், இச்சம்பவத்தில் தமிழ்நாடு அரசு கர்நாடக அரசுக்குத் தனது கண்டனத்தைப் பதிவுசெய்திட வேண்டும்.

உயிரிழந்தவர்களின் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு உரிய இழப்பீட்டுத் தொகையைப் பெற்றுத் தருவதோடு, அவர்களுக்கு அரசுப் பணியும் கிடைக்கச் செய்ய தமிழ்நாடு அரசு நடவடிக்கைகளை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

Turns out to get to the figure of “₹1 lakh crore” investment, the @TVKVijayHQ party has shamelessly added existing investments brought by #DravidaModel Government like Vinfast, Daimler, Titan etc.

So existing investments + bogus claims of investments from fake companies incorporated days before the summit makes up this sum.
