In this documentary, desperate Ugandan and other African men narrate how they were lured with promises of jobs only to find themselves deployed to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war; a war they never agreed to join. Now prisoners of war, they complain of having been flung onto the front lines while ill fed, ill trained, ill equipped, and ill protected. Worst of all, they can't even send the money they earn to their people back home. They describe scenes of unimaginable suffering, and caution others to think twice before falling for similar recruitment schemes!

Sadly for Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, he is a Muganda, a Muslim, and a member of NUP. In Uganda today, each of these identities can invite hatred, brutality, and torture when one is abducted.
So imagine what happens to someone who combines all the three!

We’ve received disturbing reports alleging that Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi was tortured to near death at Kasenyi SFC military barracks and is now being hidden from the public while receiving treatment before he can be produced.
These reports cannot be dismissed lightly. Many of us have gone through similar ordeals at the hands of this regime and were deliberately hidden from the public until our wounds and the evidence of torture had faded.
While the regime keeps the country distracted with endless diversions, it’s now 10 days since our Deputy President of the Buganda region was abducted in broad daylight and since then, he has never been seen again.
Neither the police nor the army have accounted for his whereabouts.

STATEMENT ON THE CLOSURE AND MILITARY SIEGE OF UGANDAN MEDIA HOUSES AFFILIATED TO THE NATION MEDIA GROUP

The National Unity Platform strongly condemns the military’s arbitrary closure and continuing siege of @ntvuganda, The @DailyMonitor, @sparktvuganda, @DembeFm, and other media houses under the @NationMediaGrp that started at dawn today Sunday, 28th June 2026.

The closure, enforced outside any known legal framework, is a primitive attack on press freedom and the citizens’ right to access information -- moreover by a regime now committing even worse tyranny than what it supposedly sought to end when it waged the 1980s war.

We stand in solidarity with the journalists, editors, staff, leadership and audience of the affected media houses, and empathize with all who are going to bear the related economic losses.

We urge all citizens and institutions, particularly political actors and members of the civil society, to prepare for increased repression in the coming days owing to the deepening constitutional crisis in the country.

Historically, the determination of Ugandans to be free has outlasted every regime that thought it was powerful enough to stay forever or clever enough to mutate into another. We remain confident that this time, too, the people’s aspirations for a free and democratic country shall prevail.
