@JacobNe52470770 @BackwardsFeet@trad_west_ This is nowhere near close to true for me. My effective tax rate is around 20-25%, as someone who makes a six figure salary. I'm not counting sales tax in this, but that isn't going to make a huge dent.
@StevesRawMind@bilbosfootcomb Interesting point, but have you considered that the worldview which sees a suffering human as an "incoherent husk, a living skeleton with nothing left of who you once were" might be the more anti-life one?
@pbrody And, in a certain sense, it makes sense -- Seedance 2.0, for example, is the worst AI video gen capabilities will ever be, and it's incredible.
But the idea that we're just ceding "The mantle of responsibility" to a machine and it's inevitable is just... not at all obvious to me
@pbrody Don't get me wrong though, the models are improving and it's really cool! It just feels like this "Actually society will be fundamentally different" routine has come out of nowhere in the past week.
@tenobrus@GaryMarcus@FT Opus 4.6 just gave me fake news about a Tableau macro today with an extremely confident answer. It's gotten much better but the fundamental problems remain, and it's harder than before to know when seemingly confident AI answers are wrong.
@POTUS10Archive@Daniel245815245@Cardkillah@9mmsmg As a blanket policy though it doesn't make any sense, in my opinion. We're just paying slightly more to slow down the global economy, and the feds still run a huge deficit.
@POTUS10Archive@Daniel245815245@Cardkillah@9mmsmg Framing it as good should only come after analyzing the tradeoff. We pay more to negatively affect other countries, hoping to boost our own. That can be good, but it's obviously a tradeoff. E.g. tariffs on cheap Chinese EVs are probably good, at least for now.
@OneDjentyBoiii@Daniel245815245@Cardkillah@9mmsmg I've had the same profile photo since day one and it's a picture of a church in the US, and my bio literally says I'm in Boston.
Parents, grandparents, great grandparents, every single one was born and raised in the USA.
@Daniel245815245@Cardkillah@9mmsmg Because from a purely econ perspective it hurts both sides. Americans pay a higher price and the world sells fewer things overall to americans (without necessarily selling more to their own). Everyone loses, from a total amount of stuff/GDP perspective, if the tariff is effective
@Thindithron@commonwealmag There's nothing "symbolic," "ritual," or "practical" from me being prophetic, but unless the Spirit gives you that gift, you aren't one. Indeed, the only thing that actually matters, from a Pauline perspective, is that God gives to whom He gives.
@Thindithron@commonwealmag What do you mean on a practical level? Or symbolic, ritual level? I don't think that the gifts of the Spirit relating to the offices in the Church are a question of practicality, but are gifts given.
@Thindithron@commonwealmag If anything, the Pauline letters imply the opposite, that every person's ability to manifest Christ is different. There is one Spirit, but many gifts. Are all Apostles? Are all prophets?
@Thindithron@commonwealmag Respectfully, nowhere in the text of Scripture is found the idea that all people can speak equally in the name of the church
