Why did I change my main AI coding tool to ChatGPT Codex?
I am not a professional engineer.
I work in nursing, medical care, and elderly care. At the same time, I want to make useful apps and systems from my own ideas.
For example, I want to make:
・a transcription app
・a language learning app
・a system for making short nursing videos
・useful tools for medical and elderly care workers
For me, writing code is not the final goal.
My goal is to make my ideas real.
I used Claude Code and Cursor before. They are both very good tools. However, I started to use ChatGPT Codex as my main tool.
One reason is that Codex is easy for me to give instructions to.
I can explain what I want in Japanese. Then Codex can check the files, change the code, find errors, and run tests.
It also tells me:
・which files it changed
・what work it finished
・what tests it ran
・what problems still remain
This is very important for me because I am still learning programming.
When I cannot understand what the AI is doing, I feel worried. But with Codex, I can check the work step by step.
I also wanted to connect my Mac mini, Windows PC, GitHub, Slack, iPhone, and iPad.
My idea is to use my Mac mini as my main AI work machine.
Even when I am outside, I want to check my projects and send instructions through Slack or GitHub.
Codex fits this way of working very well.
Cost is also an important reason.
When I pay for many AI coding tools at the same time, the total cost becomes high. I also need to check the usage limits and reset dates for every service.
It was becoming difficult to manage everything.
So I decided on a simple rule:
First, I use Codex.
When Codex cannot do something well, I use Claude Code or Cursor to help.
This does not mean Claude Code or Cursor are bad.
Each AI tool has its own strong points.
Claude Code may be better for some large or difficult coding work. Cursor is also useful when I want to check and edit code by myself.
But I do not need to make every AI tool the main tool.
I need one main partner that can help me finish my projects.
For me, that partner is ChatGPT Codex now.
I did not stop using all other AI tools.
I only changed their roles.
Codex is now my main tool, and I use other tools when I need them.
Using many AI tools is not my goal.
Finishing one useful project with AI is more important to me.
That is why I changed to ChatGPT Codex.
