Today is White Arm Band Day, which commemorates the period in 1992 during the Bosnian War & Bosnian Genocide during which Serb nationalist troops forced Bosniaks, Croats & other non-Serbs in Prijedor to mark their homes with white sheets, after which they & their families were exterminated, expelled, or detained in the network of local Serb nationalist concentration camps. By the war’s end, the local Bosniak population of some 50,000 had been reduced to less than 6,000; today fewer still.

As in other parts of Bosnia, local authorities in Prijedor and Banja Luka continue to deny the facts of the atrocities which took place in the area, valorize its perpetrators, and harass survivors and accountability advocates.
