Covenant university is quietly owns half the fintech ecosystem while Babcock is handling the other half. Their alumni networking is doing more real work than most public university curricula in Nigeria.
Meanwhile our Northern universities are they seem more focused on producing solid employees and government staffs. It is well.
Even the naturally ahead ABU their top products remain politicians and pastors, again it also well.
No wonder...
Some northern universities still treat entrepreneurship courses like the most useless subject in the entire semester pack or just something for students to just pass and forget.
While OAU, Covenant and Babcock are busy programming students to hate the idea of collecting salary forever, some Northern schools are still teaching Entrepreneurship in the same way they teach GNS motors by forcing it, grade it, and move on ๐๐
The results are showing!

โ Crypto Billionaire BLord
Most people know Mike Adenuga as the billionaire behind Glo and Conoil
But before the empire became what it is today, there were businesses, setbacks and ventures that didnโt go exactly as planned.
Letโs go through them one by one. ๐งต
1. Devcom Merchant Bank
Adenuga ventured into banking through Devcom Merchant Bank in the late 1980s.
The bank later became part of Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB) through a merger.
Devcom didn't continue as an independent bank.
2. Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB)
This became another major part of Adenuga's banking interests.
But ETB later ran into serious financial problems. Following the banking crisis, it required intervention and was eventually merged into Sterling Bank in 2011.
Another chapter closed.
3His first GSM attempt
This one is particularly interesting.
Adenuga's first attempt to enter Nigeria's GSM market did not work out. The GSM licence was revoked.
But instead of walking away from telecoms, he tried again.
That second attempt became **Globacom โ Glo.**
And that's where the story gets interesting.
4 Globacom
Glo entered a market where MTN and Econet were already established players.
Then Glo introduced **per-second billing**, challenging the way Nigerians were being charged for calls.
The company grew into one of Nigeria's major telecom operators.
The first telecom attempt failed.
The second became one of his biggest successes.
5 Oil exploration
Adenuga's oil interests have also had projects that faced serious difficulties, including delays and challenges around exploration.
But this is where we need to be careful:
A difficult project is not the same thing as saying the entire oil business failed.
Conoil is still a major part of the Adenuga business empire.
Covenant Apartment Complex
Another Adenuga-linked company, Covenant Apartment Complex Limited, reportedly had a loan that became a bad debt after the company failed to service it.
The debt was subsequently acquired by AMCON.
Again, not every troubled company equals total personal failure.
And this is why Adenuga's story is more interesting than simply saying:
โBillionaire builds Glo and Conoil.โ
There were banking setbacks.
There was a revoked GSM licence.
There were troubled projects.
There were debts and restructurings.
And then there were the businesses that worked.
Devcom.
ETB.
Telecoms.
Glo.
Oil.
Conoil.
The lesson isn't that everything Adenuga touched turned to gold.
It's that the road to a massive business empire can contain **failed attempts, restructuring, setbacks and second chances.**
Sometimes, the part of the story before the success is the most interesting.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, reveals how Abacha told people that him, MKO Abiola and Shehu Yara'dua won't come out of detention alive.
Shehu Yar'Adua was injected with a virus while MKO Abiola was poisoned.
So they tried to inject Obj with a virus but their plan failed.
A military doctor approached Obasanjo under the guise of taking his blood for a test.
But Obasanjo refused his blood to be taken.
He insisted on using another doctor he trusted. The doctor took his blood and gave to the military doctor.
However, the result never returned till today.
Trainee: Good morning, Tony.
Tony Elumelu: You won't call me Tony. You'll call me Mr. Elumelu. I don't subscribe to that kind of oyibo life.
Interaction between Tony Elumelu and a Graduate Trainee
Yesterday evening, I inspected the vandalized section of the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo. I commend the hardworking engineers from the Ministry of Works who have swiftly mobilized to the site to ensure the immediate repair of the damaged section.
During my visit, I received direct briefing from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashiru Bello, on the circumstances surrounding the act of vandalism. It is unfortunate that some saboteurs, whose sole objective is to undermine our developmental strides and destroy the legacy of this administration, would resort to attacking public infrastructure built with taxpayersโ resources.
I enjoin security agencies to strengthen the protection of public infrastructure across the state and ensure that those responsible for this criminal act are identified, arrested, and brought to justice. These projects belong to the people of Osun State, and every well-meaning citizen has a responsibility to protect them from acts of sabotage and vandalism. My administration remains resolute in its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and will not be deterred by the actions of those who seek to impede our progress.
