But Pokémon isn’t “inaccessible.” It’s just not cheap while a set is hot.

After demand drops, packs are there.

And 1999 wasn’t $1 magic. During the first boom packs were $3–$5, which is $6–$10 now. Chaos, Perfect Order, Pitch Black, and Journey Together sit at the cheap end of that. ME01, Twilight, and Destined Rivals are still under the top end. Kids used to buy a couple packs, not a case.

The other side of “just print more until it’s cheap” is worse than people think. If they overprint and prices only go down, the secondary market dies. Then shops stop stocking, sealed product stops being worth holding, and a lot of the people who keep the hobby liquid leave. That downward spiral is how you kill long-term health: no demand for older sets, no reason for LGS to carry product, and a player base that only shows up for the next dump. Access at MSRP matters. A market that never holds value eventually means there’s no market.
