Cells make toxic metabolites every minute they’re alive. How do they survive them?
In our @ScienceAdvances paper, we report that NRF2 coordinates the defences against genotoxic formaldehyde and ferroptosis resistance by regulating SLC7A11 (xCT)👇

Anthony Edwards was not available after the game because he was getting treatment and the team was hurrying out to catch a plane to Cleveland. Will see if he plays tomorrow. My guess is it could go either way
@Alexleaf@BenBikmanPhD I am so ready to not hear from Bikman anymore.
How he got such wide circulation for his constant, truly brutal takes is beyond me
Retatrutide adds glucagon receptor agonism to GIP and GLP-1 agonism, and the main target is the liver. Glucagon increases energy expenditure and pushes the liver to burn fat and make ketones, and this lowers liver fat. In a phase 2 trial, people on the 12 mg dose lost 24.2% of body weight at 48 weeks, and liver fat fell by up to 86%.
I think this steady, low-level glucagon signal is very different from the larger rise in glucagon that happens with fasting, and in people with type 2 diabetes it didn't raise blood glucose, since HbA1c fell by up to 2%. I think this pairing is a promising way to treat fatty liver directly.
Interesting result, but major limitations:
1. Sample size 48 people total
2. Study was 12 weeks total
3. Fiber group was about 3 BMI points lower than metformin group at baseline.
Among others.
Would be interested to see a larger trial, but idk how that would ever get funded.
Even if I were to want to engage Kratsios on the merits of some of his better ideas, he makes it essentially impossible to do in good faith when he engages in such cartoonish partisan hackery and signaling to the big boss in chief.
He also clearly has put almost zero thought into the implications of his platform for biomedical research (versus AI and AI-adjacent fields).
Just not a serious interview at all. It’s interesting he speaks so definitively on the nature of research in America given his education was a poli sci bachelors and several jobs in high finance.

US energy company execs have resigned in disgust as the Trump family is caught secretly expediting the funneling of $25 billion from a sanctioned Russian energy giant in exchange for allowing Russians to obtain a natural gas project in Alaska.
According to investigations by The New York Times and Financial Times, Russia's Novatek allegedly concealed its financial involvement in the American project through a UAE-linked intermediary.
Gentry Beach, a longtime Trump ally and close friend of Donald Trump Jr., signed an agreement with Novatek to pursue natural gas development in Alaska. Reuters documented the arrangement in February.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin discussed this cooperation on the Alaska energy project with Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine.
The controversy deepened when Polar Train LNG's CEO, Joel Riddle, raised concerns about concealed Russian financing and possible sanctions violations. He departed in September, followed by other senior executives.
The Financial Times also described discussions about a potential arrangement under which Novatek would provide technology for the Alaska project in exchange for sanctions relief benefiting its Arctic LNG 2 development in Siberia.
According to The New York Times, Riddle and two other departing executives warned the Trump administration about the Russian financing and urged officials to investigate.
The White House maintains that the project was mentioned only briefly and that no detailed discussions took place. There is no established evidence that Kushner or Witkoff knew about the allegedly concealed financing. Polar Train LNG denies wrongdoing.
The central question is how a sanctioned Russian energy company became involved in a major American energy venture while Putin was discussing potential economic cooperation with Trump's representatives and a longtime Trump family associate was pursuing a separate agreement with the same Russian company.
Selling Alaska to the Russians or selling Ukraine to the Russians - to the Trump family it's all the same.

I honestly have no idea what the point of these types of discussions are if
A) they get endlessly clipped as the means of dispersal
B) everything is litigated on Twitter threads after the fact
C) the actual gripes are addressed in said Twitter threads.
"'It's fair to have a debate,' you wrote, 'about the best direction of the party, but that debate should be conducted on honest terms.' I read that and I think: You're not being honest here, Matthew. Comparing El-Sayed to Cooper and Peltola is not just disingenuous; it's apples and oranges."
Latest clip/exchange from my interview with @mattyglesias on whether centrists like him and Neera Tanden are trying to apply unfair metrics/expectations/comparisons to @AbdulElSayed, whose race is sui generis.

I think they are going to have some
Intractable problems because of their complete lack of shooting (klay playing more than like 20 min is going to be tough on the defensive end, and THjr is a bench guy). Even as good as bam and Giannis, that’s just an extreme limitation in the 2026 nba.
