An announcement that many thought would never be made, one that no matter how many times you listen to, will never fail to stir your emotions. Just like 91, we are at a dawn of a new beginning, with those that sought to destroy #Eritrea , crushed and defeated .
President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation returned home in late morning hours today after a fruitful official visit to Egypt. Eritrea and Egypt have agreed to enhance their economic cooperation on several sectors as well as coordinate, through periodic consultations, their respective positions on vital regional and international issues of mutual interest.
#Eritrea and #Egypt have signed a landmark agreement to boost economic ties and strategic connectivity. The deal covers port development, mining, infrastructure, housing, pharmaceuticals, and maritime transport, aiming to enhance trade routes and economic integration. 👍👍👍
‘Eritrea has repeatedly rejected these accusations as phantom bases and has consistently denied granting military facilities to either Israel or Iran. Its position has remained unchanged: Eritrea does not mortgage its land, islands, ports, or mountains to foreign powers, nor does it turn its territory into a battlefield for rival states. In the words of President Isaias Afwerki, Eritrea is not for sale—not to Israel, not to Iran, not to America, and not to any power that imagines Eritrean sovereignty can be rented, bought, or bargained away.’@Ghidewon@RedSeaBeacon

The years between 1952 and 1991, when Ethiopia had a presence on the Red Sea coast are an aberration of history, which the EPLF rectified when it victoriously marched into Asmara in May 1991 #Eritrea https://t.co/XdZrWwuEKc
President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation made a tour of the new Administrative Capital in the Cairo Governorate and the various Public Service Pavilions and infrastructures under construction. Discussions centered on prospective areas of broad cooperation.

“Codified Customary Laws of Eritrea, Volume I”
by Dr. Senai Woldeab & Andemichael Solomon is now out.
A 950-page masterpiece documenting 26 customary laws from 2,778 villages (96.1% of Eritrea) — with detailed maps, elders’ records, and rich visuals of traditional life and justice.Essential reading for understanding Eritrea’s legal heritage.

If only someone in the media would expose Farage's incitement yesterday via performative utterance in the same way that Jonathan Miller humiliated Enoch Powell and his grubby little racism.
@ElmEritrea While your call is commendable, rather than call it the 'Blue Id card', it would be better if you used the proper name, which is, The Eritrean National Identity Card. It is the only confirmation of a person being an #Eritrea n National.
Martin Plaut posted an article from The Times (London), written in March 1950, emphasizing that #Eritrea was not considered fit for nationhood. I would like to thank Mr. Plaut for sharing this piece of evidence, as it reveals more than he bargained during the UN Commission's deliberations.
First and foremost, I am willing to bet that this article was written by Sylvia Pankhurst. She travelled to #Asmara and then flew to #AddisAbaba in a small aircraft at a time when #Ethiopia did not even have an international airport. She was actively campaigning for the union of Eritrea with Ethiopia, and her influence and arguments can be seen throughout this article.
At the time, the British were working hard to partition Eritrea, incorporating western Eritrea into Sudan under their sphere of influence while attaching the Eritrean highlands to Ethiopia. They were doing everything possible to make that plan a reality.
However, even this article acknowledges the following:
"The Ethiopian Government has been as articulate as the Eritrean Unionists, but its claim to the whole of Eritrea as a 'lost province' does violence to history and takes insufficient account of present political and religious facts. The claim is based on romantic references to early history and migrations, the main implication being that Ethiopia lost control of the Red Sea coast only at the time of European annexations. History does not bear this out."
This passage is significant because it openly rejects the claim that Eritrea was historically a lost Ethiopian province and states that such an argument is not supported by the historical record.
When one sees the extent of the noise coming out of the anti #Eritrea camp regarding Pre Isais Afewerki's short speech, and the #Ethiopian gov holding on to every word of the speech, you realise that when the Lion roars, everyone stops & listens.

#Eritrea at 35: Honouring Independence, Building Partnership
by Ms. Nahla Valji, UN Resident Coordinator in Eritrea
*"...This month, Eritreans across the country and around the world celebrate 35 years of independence. Marked this year under the theme 'Our Resilience: Our Guarantee", it is a milestone that resonates with particular force for a young independent state. Independence was not handed to Eritrea. It was won through a long struggle of three decades. Because this history is still recent, and within the lived experience of a generation, every family and every community continues to carry some memory of the struggle – and the cost of freedom".
*"...For the United Nations, this anniversary carries special meaning. Eritrea is one of the younger Member States of the United Nations – following its internationally observed referendum and formal independence, Eritrea joined the United Nations in May 1993 as the 182nd Member State. That moment placed Eritrea’s flag among the nations of the world and affirmed a principle at the heart of the UN Charter. Every nation, regardless of size or history, has an equal place in the international community".
*"...This principle matters. Eritrea is not simply a country where the United Nations works – it is a sovereign Member State of the United Nations, with its own voice and role. It contributes to global discussions as an equal member of the international community, bringing its perspectives and priorities, shaped by a firm belief in national ownership and regional leadership".

@AligidirEritrea@DahlaKib After the victory of the EPLF at the final and decisive battle at Dekemahre, Mengistu stayed only long enough to pack a suitcase. By 08:00 hrs on 21 May 26 he left Ethiopia with his tail firmly tucked between his legs.
The Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the United Nations hosted a reception commemorating #Eritrea’s 35th Independence Anniversary under the theme “Our Resilience: Our Guarantee.” The event, “Tastes and Sounds of Eritrea,” brought together Permanent Representatives, diplomats, senior officials from the UN Secretariat, representatives of regional organizations, members of the media, civil society organizations, and friends of #Eritrea for an evening celebrating Eritrean culture, heritage, and national resilience.
Eritreans working throughout the @UN system, as well as members of the #Eritrean community from the Greater #NewYork area, also joined the celebration, adding to the warm and festive atmosphere of the evening. Their participation reflected the strong connection between Eritreans at home and abroad and underscored the important role of the Eritrean Diaspora in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural identity and national values.
The reception showcased Eritrea’s rich cultural diversity through traditional music, dance performances, and authentic Eritrean cuisine representing the country’s various regions and communities. Guests were offered a vibrant cultural experience highlighting Eritrea’s long-standing traditions of unity, social cohesion, and hospitality. The evening also served as an opportunity for diplomatic engagement and cultural exchange, reflecting Eritrea’s continued commitment to constructive multilateralism and international cooperation.
In remarks delivered during the event, Her Excellency @AmbStesfamariam underscored the significance of #Eritrea’s independence as the culmination of decades of sacrifice and determination, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to sovereignty, self-reliance, and regional peace and stability. Thirty-five years ago today, on May 21, 1991, the #Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (#EPLF), advancing toward the liberation of #Asmara, shattered the heavily fortified Derg front at #Dekemhare and liberated the town. The collapse of the Dekemhare Front marked a decisive turning point in the final phase of the 30-year long #Eritrean War of independence. Realizing that the end was inevitable, Mengistu Hailemariam, Ethiopia’s brutal Communist dictator, finally saw the handwriting on the wall and fled to Zimbabwe with his tail between his legs ጭርኡ ደጒሉ ሃዲሙ.
Remarkably, the late Memhir Asres Tesma, one of Eritrea’s finest and most influential poets, songwriters, and musicians, had already captured Mengistu’s violent character in his superbly crafted Tigrinya poem “The Rabid Dog” as early as 1977, after witnessing him hurl bottles filled with blood while swearing to shed the blood of his opponents.
Mengistu, the rabid bulldog, the warmonger, may have departed, but sadly #Ethiopia didn’t fare any better under Meles Zenawi and now @AbiyAhmedAli that followed him.

#Eritrea: the Long Road to Independence
by Shabait Staff
Eritrea, strategically positioned along the Red Sea in the volatile Horn of Africa, is a country shaped by resilience, sacrifice, and an unrelenting struggle for self-determination. With its long, unspoiled coastline and deep historical roots stretching back to the dawn of humanity, the nation occupies a unique place in both African and world history.
Yet Eritrea’s modern story has been defined above all by decades of foreign efforts at domination, political betrayal, and one of the longest liberation wars on the African continent.
As Eritreans worldwide celebrate the 35th anniversary of independence, this three-part series revisits the historical forces, international interventions, and popular resistance that forged the Eritrean nation
