Got a poetry collection by Czech poet Ivan Blatný with an English translation side by side some time ago. It was bad. It's almost impossible to move one's core knowledge to another language. On the other hand I did some translation of Jack Gilbert to Czech and I liked it.

When the influx of an outside fashion came, there was no way to mimic the cat walk moves. It’s just not in the blood. In this case the marching moves cannot be properly sublimated
