Actually, Karoline Leavitt is using the 12 weeks of paid parental leave that President Trump signed into law in 2019 for all federal employees as part of the NDAA.

Republicans aren’t ‘denying’ maternity leave, the U.S. has had job-protected (unpaid) FMLA leave since 1993. The debate is over a federal mandate on private businesses vs. voluntary/incentive-based approaches. Trump pushed for paid leave expansions, and many Republican-led states (Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc.) have recently added paid parental leave for state employees and teachers.

Private companies offer it when it makes business sense, and the market has been expanding it. Forcing one-size-fits-all via Washington often hurts small businesses and raises costs for everyone. Hypocrisy would be opposing it for federal workers while taking it yourself. Here, it’s the opposite: the policy exists thanks to Republican leadership
