@ossukurisu@TheGradyConnell Yes yes yes. Didn't help that half the time I was cutting it close so I would be speed walking while looking backwards at the sign.
Back in the 90s, a (white) man I know basically tried to kill his wife twice. When she eventually told police, one of them told her to stop lying. I doubt he would be part of any IPV statistics.
A quick note on violence against women:
When I was a post-grad student at Vic in Welly, I was considering writing about IPV for a paper. I started a folder on my desktop, labelled ‘femicide’ after a particularly awful murder was reported in media.
After six months, I ditched it
In 4th form in my first "unstreamed" science class was where I learnt that not everybody has the same knowledge base as me and it made me better at communicating information with a broad range of people
I think I probably would have lost my mind if I hadn't been put into an extension class. And I certainly wouldn't have "realized my full potential".

What is the 15-minute city? It's every city ever built by humans on this planet until a century ago, but with a catchy new name. And if the old parts haven't been destroyed in the last century, it's where the tourists go. And people travel across oceans to see the best of them.
@FoxyLustyGrover Rice cooker all the way. I was shocked to learn when I was a teenager that not everybody in NZ owns one! The only time my family cooked rice in a pot was while camping and I felt primitive. Source: am Japanese.
@DanielFaitaua Weekly I take the Te Huia from Hamilton to Auckland and many people have the same reaction. Only positive of driving is that it *might* be faster if traffic is flowing - but I save money, can work, have a nap, buy a coffee etc all on the train AND I don't have to find parking!
@mikeythenurse My main deciders were proximity to public transport, particularly the train station, when I bought a couple of years ago. That limited my options but I know I never want to buy on a cliff, at the bottom of a valley or too close to the beach.
Being led by people who make hard things look easy brings social costs, because the next round of people come along thinking that things are going to be as easy as they looked, which they never are
@FoxyLustyGrover The take is implying there's actually no point in having a mayor since having a different one apparently doesn't change anything 🤷🏻♀️
COMMUNITY CALL-OUT: We're pulling together a list of grassroots support available, and where people can help/donate across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Please share in the comments below any such information or leads, especially that which may be missed in other official channels.
I'm part of a team that are launching Whanganui’s first frequent bus in over 30 years. It’s called Te Ngaru The Tide, and it’s a first step towards public transport that aims to be usable for everyone - the kind we’ve revived in large cities but also the kind we used to have here
@pearce_murray The Pak N Save I went to today had a detailed sign saying it was a decision made by the government in 2012 - so I assume it's up to the franchise owners to decide what they put up.
