This is absolutely bananas.
There is NOTHING like this on the instrumental record. Its likely impact is probably immeasurable.
But is it leading our news bulletins & on newspaper front pages?
Nope.
@drvolts Yes and we should require solar panels over all large parking lots with decent solar resources! Let's start by using land for renewable energy development that's already been ecologically degraded.
@nhotte Great photos, but be aware there are heavy metals in the exposed lake bed. I'm glad it was wet when you visited to dampen the dust! I know students who have gotten sick from taking sediment samples from the lake for research purposes.
Damn straight I'm going to tweet through Twitter's downfall.
Time for a big old thread on the @IEA's World Energy Outlook 2022. As usual: just highlights and bits and I go through it - and where relevant, a few of my own charts thanks to nice open data

Been reading more and more takes that climate bill failed because of shifting public opinion: e.g. the NYT "reported" this week (without empirical evidence!) that the public has soured on climate as the economy weakened. Nonsense. A short 🧵 1/

I wrote a thing. About conservation (sort of) and how to survive what sometimes feels like an unwinnable struggle. Thanks to @dyhiapadilla @ShackletonTrust https://t.co/XJLuLjUC7p
Feel like you’re not doing enough to combat the #biodiversity and #climatecrisis?
Not tackling the priorities?
Or lacking hope?

I am 1/4 Ukrainian. Here’s a story relevant to today’s disaster. In 1976 I traveled to Moscow in a 6-person U.S. delegation to an ocean science conference, 1 of the early ‘safe exchanges’ (athletes & scientists) in the thaw of in relations between the U.S. & the USSR.
What do you do when the mountains you love take everything from you? I can’t thank @campbelladam79 enough for sharing his story of loss, and also figuring out what tomorrow looks like, with me and @outsidemagazine: https://t.co/6RZ73ITmKC
New pub! We want to equip municipal governments with strategies to transition to renewables. I'm proud of my former student, Emily Skill, who led this paper! https://t.co/dF1k04LghZ
