Rusty linguist & full-time adoptive mum to 2 boys & a cat. We're the Bean Family: I'm a French Bean, Hubby's a Runner Bean & our boys are Keen & Jumping Beans.
This success story is really down to two things: first and foremost the courage and tenacity of @meropemills, secondly great journalism projected into the ears of opinion formers and decision makers, which makes Today so powerful. @MishalHusain is one the best.
This resonates. Finally got my laparoscopy and diagnosis after 18 years of debilitating endo pain. Last words from the (male) consultant before I was anaesthetised: "I'm very confident we won't find anything". Dismissed to the last.
Vomiting, cold sweats, unable to walk from pain, feeling suicidal prior, dismissed by GPs since 14, wrongly told it’s normal. A gynae specialist I waited 2yrs to see said “just have a baby” and threw 100 cocodomol at me - but y’know, at least I wasn’t at the battle of the Somme.
@HardmanWil As others have said, the the move to KS1 is a huge, often clunky gear change. As a parent, I wish I'd known about this in advance so I could have prepared our son better. It's in Y1 that his struggles escalated; it's a pinch point for a lot of children, esp. neurodivergent ones.
@PolyglotElsa Current Y5 are the cohort most marked by Covid, having been in Reception when it struck. There are still so many lagging skills, like learning how to lose well.
@professor_dave My heart is full reading this! It's a small piece of paradise, isn't it? So glad you made it there. What were your highlights? We're in Slovenia right now, which is also breathtaking but Saalbach is proving a hard act to follow for the boys!
Such an emotional listen; Liam speaks powerfully & candidly. Should be required listening for politicians in their ivory towers. It's nothing short of scandalous that 52% of care-experienced young people have a criminal conviction by age 24. Who will improve their life chances?
📻 Behind the Crime on @BBCRadio4 right now.
In episode 1, @Sally_Tilt and @kerensahocken talk to Liam, who's 19 years old and went to prison for a drugs offence and carrying a blade. His back-story gives some clues about why this happened.

@Oldprimaryhead1 I recently attended governor training where we were signposted to a course called 'Handling Complaints'. It's a hot topic as apparently complaints are up hugely compared with last year (which also saw an increase vs. previous years).
@Stephen05326396 @Beth_Clift Yes, indeed! Covered this on my TEFL course and taught it to my bemused students in the Czech Republic. There are lots of fun exercises and roleplays that can be done with this.
@SuzanneCulshaw @Positivteacha @BBCWomansHour I came here to say the same. As a (pre-teen) boy mum and school governor, I've been heartened to hear how thoughtful, alert and mature the boys who've taken part are.
4 years ago I did this newsnight interview to raise awareness around children in care being placed in dangerous houses, unregulated accommodation, squalor, bedsits. Young people 15+ left to defend for themselves in a house where you're expected to be independent!! In 2024 and we're still here. We have a care review with a list of recommendations to protect and prevent, and its still sitting on a bookshelf in Parliament collecting dust. Not good enough. #changeiscoming
