One thing I desperately want from modern RPGs:
STOP MAKING EVERY COMPANION NICE.
Give me assholes. Give me people who disagree with me. Give me companions who leave. Give me romances I can completely fuck up. Give me characters I genuinely hate..
and let me be nasty to them too.
Friendship should feel earned - not automatic, and personalities should be as varied as the environments.
Sensitive young man imagines a place where he finally feels like he belongs. This is what's considered "evil" in the longhouse. You can't even fantasize about escape without being nagged.
Theres a certain tone of obnoxious criticism that is prominent on the internet that I like to call "peak generational slander" where geeks try to poorly imitate sports fans talking trash about rival teams
But they'll sit and watch stuff like Euphoria without blinking. I noticed it with reactors, they'll watch some of the craziest, degen stuff in western shows no problem but shuffle in their seat and act all awkward and complain when they see anything slightly risqué in anything animated.
Woke reporter SHUTS DOWN my Interview when I expose her as a racist.
She says it is not possible to be racist toward white people. When I show her that simple logic disproves everything she is saying, she is forced to get up & end the conversation.
I used to think devs were just like the audience. Passionate gamers who got what we wanted but weren't allowed to, held back by some nebulous external force preventing them from making great games like studios used to. Then developers got on social media.
@gendervivivi All this subconcious shit is oddlh religious to, a way to make a secular version of a weirdly catholic form of morality where youre supposed to feel guilty all the time and can never truly be cleansed of sin.
Sometimes still think about how Doom 2016 had doomguy destroy a thing that was trying to explain lore and story to him, rejecting the very idea of exposition and lore in a doom game
and then the next 2 games just decided "you know what? this game needs more lore"
The “game studio breaks free of their big greedy publisher and successfully convinces everyone they were to blame for past problems and coasts on goodwill until everyone gradually realizes the problems were coming from the studio itself the whole time” starter pack
I thought she was a huge evil ass racist like a week ago and jax was "the worst character of all time". All it take for you people to shut up is jiggle a couple of queers like keys to a toddler
Palworld is the only one of these creature games where just like pokemon the designs constantly bounce from "wow cool monster" to "I want to have sex with that", and I think that's why it's actually successful.
they were not loathed people were just really fatigued with them and pokemon as a whole was in a downturn and not really culturally strong in the gaming or any space outside diehard fans.
they received a lot of praise from people who played them at the time.
Call of Duty fans used to call Halo "gaylo" and Halo fans used to make fun of COD for getting worse every year and Star Wars fans used to call Star Trek lame while Trekkies called Star Wars slop and now both sides of both just mourn the Century of Humiliation for all four
