Happy 250th, Patriots. We have the Mandate of Heaven. There is nothing we can’t do or overcome. We marched through the darkness of Valley Forge and came out the other side a nation. Heaven favored the cause then. It favors it still.

This is General John Reynolds. He was killed on the first day of Gettysburg, probably a sharpshooter to the head. He was a talented commander, someone Lincoln considered as overall General for the federal armies.
In the Civil War, there is so much nostalgia for classy losers like Lee and Jackson that people forget about guys like Reynolds - who knew them both, and who died before doing anything that made them household names. But guys like John Reynolds also deserve to be remembered on the 250th anniversary of the USA.
America was saved in Brooklyn by the Maryland 400, who martyred themselves to save our Nation. Most had never seen combat, yet held the British off until the retreat. Almost all were captured or died.
Washington famously said “Good God! What brave fellows I must this day lose!”
O Eternal God, through whose mighty power our fathers won their liberties of old; Grant, we beseech thee, that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain these liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
