@xriskology Thank you very much :)
The EA Forum is a great place to house highly speculative content with huge stakes - I've noticed that my post has now been joined about one specifically on the existential risk posed by time travel.
@xriskology Thanks for the thread and pointing me towards your paper. I've now added a 'further reading' list to the end of the post to help avoid the re-discovering. I hope the focus on galactic (and not necessarily conflict-driven) x-risks is a welcome development on these works.

@iainmacl I don't mean to trivialise climate change. But there are many global challenges and we have the resources to tackle both AI and climate change. The limitation seems to be people's will to do so. There is no choice - do both
@iainmacl It seems very clear to me that AI is an existential risk. It is already inventing new toxins orders of magnitude more toxic than anything we've seen before, and could conceivably invent new pathogens causing terrible pandemics, or be used to hack nuclear weapons.
@arjunkhemani@MaxMore1964 AI safety is not necessarily at odds with progress. Future AI has to be safe, so by figuring that out now, we can create a secure platform for innovation. People wanting to pause AI development just think we need more time to do that.
