The LA Times, Orange County Registrar, San Francisco Chronicle, and Sacramento Bee all agree: Prop 36 is more harm than help for public safety. Please vote NO.
"We oppose Prop. 36 because we think it is a bad idea driven by anger over reason." - Sac Bee, https://t.co/ZWGyeGaNcH
California voters! Please vote NO on Prop 36. It will slash funding for treatment, rehabilitation, and victim services programs. The Los Angeles Times, Sacramento Bee, and Orange County Registrar urge a NO vote. Check this for more info: https://t.co/mFTFFRwEqL

“With all the money we saved not incarcerating folks, we funded an entire Prop. 47-mandated infrastructure of treatment and anti-recidivism stuff — which does help people — which will likely be gutted if Prop. 36 passes.”

"This measure might be a great job protection program for the California prison guards union, which is among those behind this measure, but it’s not good policymaking."

"We can solve the mass incarceration problem, we can solve the public safety problem by doing one simple thing—and that’s listening to crime victims."

Introducing Scaling Safety - @CBPS_Collective@SafeandJustUSA 🏘️
Despite billions spent on US public safety, residents in low-income communities of color are 15 times more likely to be victimized by crime and 3 times less likely to get help than residents in wealthier areas. True public safety begins with community empowerment.
Scaling Safety has an Audacious idea to put the "public" back in “public safety,” by accelerating the growth and development of resident-powered prevention programs.
Over the next five years, Scaling Safety will provide technical support, flexible resources, and advocacy for resident-powered programs in five major US cities: Austin, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Tucson, Arizona. The goal is to scale up these programs to double access to help for the most vulnerable residents, reduce violence by up to 50%, integrate these programs within cities' safety ecosystems, and improve life for the over 2.5 million people who live in these areas overall.
